Dunchurch, Ontario
Dunchurch is a compact rural community in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in the municipality of Whitestone in Parry Sound District. History The community was first settled in late summer 1870 when Arthur Millin, arriving on The Great North Road (that had begun construction in 1867) from Parry Sound, claimed a homestead plot. In 1873, the community was given the name ''Newcombe''. The first log schoolhouse, which doubled as a union church (a church available to multiple denominations), was erected in 1875 on land in the centre of the community. To avoid confusion with similarly named places in the province, in 1877 postmaster George Kelcey renamed the community after his birthplace in Warwickshire, England. Organizing for the founding of a Presbyterian church was first recorded in 1889, and a church building completed in 1897 as Knox Presbyterian Church. The building serves as Knox United Church. Dunchurch
Dunchurch is a large village and civil parish on the south-western outskirts of Rugby in Warwickshire, England, approximately southwest of central Rugby. The civil parish which also includes the nearby hamlet of Toft, had a population of 4,123 at the 2021 Census, a substantial increase from 2,938 at the 2011 Census. History The earliest historical reference to Dunchurch was in the Domesday Book of 1086, which mentioned a settlement called ''Don Cerce''. The core of the village has been declared a conservation area because it has many buildings of historical interest. Some of the buildings date to the 15th century are timber-framed and still have traditional thatch roofs. Secondary Highway 520, commonly referred to as Highway 520, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The highway is in length, connecting several small communities in Parry Sound District with Highway 124 and Highway 11. King's Highway 124, commonly known as Highway 124, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The highway connects Highway 400 in Parry Sound with Highway 11 in Sundridge, a distance of , including a concurrency with Highway 520. It is one of several highways in Central Ontario to provide this connection through the Muskoka and Parry Sound region, and the northernmost provincial highway to do so south of Highway 17. Magnetawan River
The Magnetawan River is a long river in Parry Sound District, Ontario, Canada. The river flows 175 km from its source of Magnetawan Lake inside Algonquin Provincial Park to empty into Georgian Bay at the community of Britt on Byng Inlet. The name of the river means "swiftly flowing waters" in the Ojibwa language. At the end of the 19th century, the river was used to float white pine logs to sawmills downstream. The river gained recent renown when it was featured in Bill Mason's film Waterwalker. The river has numerous rapids, such as, "The Thirty Dollar Rapids", "The Fourteen", "The Ten", the "Potato Rapids", "Poverty Bay Chutes", and "Cody Rapids". The town of Magnetawan is located on the river between Lake Cecebe and Ahmic Lake. Parry Sound is a town in Ontario, Canada, located on the eastern shore of the sound after which it is named. Parry Sound is located south of Sudbury and north of Toronto.
