Duncan McLean (footballer, Born 1868)
Duncan McLean (20 January 1868 – 17 November 1941) was a Scottish footballer who played for Renton, Everton, Liverpool, St Bernard's and Scotland in the latter years of the 19th century. Club career McLean played for Renton Union and Renton, before signing for Everton in 1890 when the Dunbartonshire club were expelled from the Scottish Football League for matters relating to professionalism. He played a bit part in their first league title triumph in the following season. The departure of Andrew Hannah to Renton that summer gave McLean his chance to establish himself as the regular first choice right back at the club, although the club were unable to repeat the form of the previous year, finishing fifth. Renton, West Dunbartonshire
Renton (Scottish Gaelic: ''An Reantan''; Scots language, Scots: ''The Renton'') is a village in West Dunbartonshire, in the west Central Lowlands of Scotland. In the 2001 National Census it had a population of 2,138. Renton is particularly famous for the village's association football side. Renton F.C., Renton was one of the 11 founder members of the Scottish Football League and winners of the 1885 and 1888 Scottish Cup, producing many famous players. Middlesbrough Ironopolis
Middlesbrough Ironopolis Football Club was a football club based in Middlesbrough, England. Although it was only in existence for five years, the club won three Northern League titles, two cup competitions and once reached the FA Cup quarter-finals. They were based at the Paradise Ground. History The club was formed in 1889 by some members of Middlesbrough F.C., an amateur club at the time, who wanted the town of Middlesbrough to have a professional club. The team played its first ever non-competitive game against Gainsborough Trinity on 14 December 1889 at home. The match ended in a 1–1 draw. After dominating and being crowned champions for the first two football league seasons Preston North End slipped to second and Everton won the league with a two-point gap. Meanwhile, there had been changes in the league since the last football league season, Stoke had not been re-elected to the football league, so joined the rival Football Alliance. The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. It was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League.
