Fosnes Municipality
Fosnes is a former municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 2020 when it was merged into Namsos Municipality. It was part of the Namdalen region. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Dun on the island of Jøa. Other villages include Salsnes and Nufsfjord. At the time of its dissolution in 2020, the municipality was the 199th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Olav Duun
Olav Duun (21 November 1876 – 13 September 1939) was a writer of Norwegian fiction. He is generally recognized to be one of the more outstanding writers in Norwegian literature. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature twenty-four times in fourteen years, and once lacked only one vote to receive the prize. Early life Duun was born in the traditional district of Outer Namdalen, on the island of Jøa which is located in the Namsenfjorden in Fosnes Municipality in Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. His parents were Johannes Antonius Duun and Ellen (Fossum) Duun. Olav Duun was born Ole Johannesen Raaby. Duun was the oldest in a family of eight siblings. Dun Church
Dun Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Namsos Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Dun in the central part of the island of Jøa. It is the main church for the Fosnes parish which is part of the Namdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1949 using plans drawn up by the architect Arne Sørvig. The church seats about 400 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1533, but the old church was likely built around the year 1250. Originally, the church served the whole Fosnes prestegjeld which included most of today's Namsos Municipality and Flatanger Municipality. The first church was located at Fosnes (along the Fosnavågen bay), about to the northeast of today's church site. Jøa is an island in Namsos Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The island lies on the south side of the Foldafjord, between the mainland and the islands of Otterøya and Elvalandet.
