Dulwich Preparatory School
Dulwich Prep Cranbrook is a co-educational preparatory school for children aged 3–13 near Cranbrook, Kent. Since September 2010, the Headmaster has been Paul David. History In the autumn of 1938, John Leakey, the Headmaster of Dulwich College Preparatory School in Dulwich, London, organized an emergency evacuation camp to be constructed in the orchard on his father-in-law’s land at Coursehorn, near Cranbrook, Kent. Originally there were 6 wooden huts, some bell tents, a marquee and some camp kitchen equipment. After much preparation, on 1 September 1939, the train taking the 135 boys aged 5–13 set off from West Dulwich Station, arriving at Cranbrook Station after 9pm in the pouring rain and were transported by car, sheep lorry and on foot to the camp three miles away at Coursehorn. Cranbrook, Kent
Cranbrook is a town in the civil parish of Cranbrook and Sissinghurst, in the Weald of Kent in South East England. It lies roughly half-way between Maidstone and Hastings, about southeast of central London. The smaller settlements of Sissinghurst, Swattenden, Colliers Green and Hartley lie within the civil parish. The population of the parish was 6,717 in 2011. History The place name Cranbrook derives from Old English ''cran bric'', meaning Crane Marsh, marshy ground frequented by cranes (although more probably herons). Spelling of the place name has evolved over the centuries from ''Cranebroca'' (c. 1100); by 1226 it was recorded as ''Cranebroc'', then Cranebrok. By 1610 the name had become Cranbrooke, which evolved into the current spelling. Dulwich Prep London (DPL), formerly known as Dulwich College Preparatory School, is an independent preparatory school in Dulwich, south London, England for boys aged 3–13 years. The current Head Master is Louise Davidson. In 1938 headmaster John Leakey established an evacuation camp in the orchard on his father-in-law's land at Coursehorn, near Cranbrook, Kent, where the affiliated Dulwich Prep Cranbrook still is today. The school changed its name in September 2011 to Dulwich Prep London, having been previously called Dulwich College Preparatory School. Despite their close proximity and relationship, the school has no official link with Dulwich College, which has its own junior school for students between ages 7 and 13. Benenden School
Benenden School is an independent boarding school for girls in Kent, England, in Hemsted Park at Benenden, between Cranbrook and Tenterden. Benenden has a boarding population of over 550 girls aged 11 to 18, as well as a limited number of day student spaces. Facilities The school occupies a Victorian country house set in 250 acres of gardens and woodland in the Weald of Kent. Thomas Matthew Ransley (born 6 September 1985) is a retired British Rowing (sport), rower.
