Duke–North Carolina Lacrosse Rivalry
The Duke–North Carolina lacrosse rivalry is an college lacrosse, intercollegiate lacrosse rivalry between the Duke Blue Devils men's lacrosse, Duke Blue Devils and the North Carolina Tar Heels men's lacrosse, North Carolina Tar Heels. Located just 9.8 miles apart on Tobacco Road (rivalry), Tobacco Road, the two programs are classic rivals in the Atlantic Coast Conference, headlined by their Duke–North Carolina rivalry, basketball and Victory Bell (Duke–North Carolina), football rivalries, but also extending to lacrosse - even club lacrosse. The Duke Blue Devils men's lacrosse team represents Duke University in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's lacrosse. Duke currently competes as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and plays its home games at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. The principal rivalry of Duke is their all-sports nemesis North Carolina. History The first lacrosse game played by Duke took place on April 9, 1938, when the Blue Devils traveled to meet their nearby rivals, North Carolina, which itself had just formed a team the year prior. NC State Wolfpack Men's Lacrosse
The NC State Wolfpack men's lacrosse team represented North Carolina State University in NCAA Division I men's college lacrosse, lacrosse from 1973 to 1982 and currently represents the university in the Southeast Lacrosse Conference. The team was disbanded as a varsity sport after the 1982 season. The team currently competes in the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division I. History The first Wolfpack team, initially granted club status, was introduced in 1972 by Colonel Robert E. Conroy, a military science instructor. The 2007 NCAA Division I lacrosse tournament was the 37th annual tournament hosted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the team champion of men's college lacrosse among its Division I programs, held at the end of the 2007 NCAA Division I men's lacrosse season. 2005 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship
The 2005 NCAA Division I lacrosse tournament was the 35th annual tournament hosted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the team champion of men's college lacrosse among its Division I programs, held at the end of the 2005 NCAA Division I men's lacrosse season. Johns Hopkins won the championship with a 9–8 win over Duke. The Blue Jays, led by senior Kyle Harrison and sophomore goalie Jesse Schwartzman, won their eighth NCAA championship and first since 1987. The Princeton Tigers men's lacrosse team represents Princeton University in NCAA Division I men's lacrosse play. Princeton currently competes as a member of the Ivy League and plays its home games at the Class of 1952 Stadium in Princeton, New Jersey. Mike Pressler
Mike Pressler (born February 27, 1960) is an American lacrosse coach, who is currently the head coach and general manager of Atlas Lacrosse Club of the Premier Lacrosse League as well as the varsity head coach for Highland Park High School's lacrosse team (Highland Park, TX). He was previously the head coach of the Bryant Bulldogs from 2007 until his retirement after the 2022 season. He served as the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils for 16 seasons until he was forced to resign during the Duke lacrosse case in 2006. He received the F. Morris Touchstone Award for the men's college lacrosse coach of the year in 2005. In 2010, he coached the United States men's national lacrosse team to a gold medal.
