Duke Wu Of Lu
Duke Wu of Lu was a ruler of the State of Lu during the Western Zhou Dynasty. His ancestral name was Ji, and given name Ao. He succeeded his brother, Duke Shen of Lu, as the ninth ruler of Lu. In spring of the ninth year of his reign, he paid a visit to King Xuan of Zhou with his heir apparent Kuo and younger son, Xi. King Xuan appreciated Xi greatly, and despite the objections of his councillor Zhongshan Fu, he decided to intervene and appoint Xi as the heir apparent over his elder brother. In summer, the three returned to Lu, and Duke Wu died shortly after. Lu (state)
Lu (, c. 1042–249 BC) was a vassal state during the Zhou dynasty of ancient China located around modern Shandong province. Founded in the 11th century BC, its rulers were from a cadet branch of the House of Ji (姬) that ruled the Zhou dynasty. The first duke was Boqin, a son of the Duke of Zhou, who was brother of King Wu of Zhou and regent to King Cheng of Zhou. Lu was the home state of Confucius as well as Mozi, and as such has an outsized cultural influence among the states of the Eastern Zhou and in history. The ''Annals of Spring and Autumn'', for instance, was written with the Lu rulers' years as their basis. Another great work of Chinese history, the '' Zuo Zhuan'' or ''Commentary of Zuo'', was also written in Lu by Zuo Qiuming. Duke Shen Of Lu
Duke is a male title either of a monarch ruling over a duchy, or of a member of royalty, or nobility. As rulers, dukes are ranked below emperors, kings, grand princes, grand dukes, and sovereign princes. As royalty or nobility, they are ranked below princess nobility and grand dukes. The title comes from French ''duc'', itself from the Latin ''dux'', 'leader', a term used in republican Rome to refer to a military commander without an official rank (particularly one of Germanic or Celtic origin), and later coming to mean the leading military commander of a province. In most countries, the word ''duchess'' is the female equivalent.
