Duke of Denia ( es, Duque de Denia), is an hereditary title in the peerage of Spain, accompanied by the dignity of Grandee. It was granted to ﾃ］gela Maria Apolonia Pﾃｩrez de Barradas y Bernuy on 28 June 1886 by king Alfonso XII. The tile was originally granted as "Duke of Denia and Tarifa" (''duque de Denia y Tarifa'') but was separated into two different titles on 22 December 1886 by the Queen Regent, Maria Christina of Austria. Alfonso XII Of Spain
Alfonso XII (Alfonso Francisco de Asﾃｭs Fernando Pﾃｭo Juan Marﾃｭa de la Concepciﾃｳn Gregorio Pelayo; 28 November 185725 November 1885), also known as El Pacificador or the Peacemaker, was King of Spain from 29 December 1874 to his death in 1885. After a revolution that deposed his mother Isabella II from the throne in 1868, Alfonso studied in Austria and France. His mother abdicated in his favour in 1870, and he returned to Spain as king in 1874 following a military coup against the First Republic. Alfonso died aged 27 in 1885, and was succeeded by his son, Alfonso XIII, who was born the following year. He is the most recent monarch of Spain to have died while on the throne. Spanish nobles are persons who possess the legal status of hereditary nobility according to the laws and traditions of the Spanish monarchy and historically also those who held personal nobility as bestowed by one of the three highest orders of knighthood of the Kingdom, namely the Order of the Golden Fleece, the Order of Charles III and the Order of Isabella the Catholic. A system of titles and honours of Spain and of the former kingdoms that constitute it make up the Spanish nobility. Duke is a male title either of a monarch ruling over a duchy, or of a member of royalty, or nobility. Maria Christina Henriette Desideria Felicitas Raineria of Austria ( es, Marﾃｭa Cristina de Habsburgo-Lorena; 21 July 1858 窶 6 February 1929) was the second queen consort of Alfonso XII of Spain. She was queen regent during the vacancy of the throne between her husband's death in November 1885 and the birth of their son Alfonso XIII in May 1886, and subsequently also until the coming of age of the latter in May 1902. This is a list of the 149 present and extant royal and non-royal dukes in the peerage of the Kingdom of Spain. The oldest six titles 窶 created between 1380 and 1476 窶 were Duke of Medina Sidonia (1380), Duke of Alburquerque (1464), Duke of Segorbe (1469), Duke of Alba (1472), Duke of Escalona (1472), and Duke of Infantado (1475).
