Al-Dujail Sport Club ( ar, نادي الدجيل الرياضي), is an Iraqi football team based in Dujail, Saladin, that plays in Iraq Division Two. History Suspension and resumption In 1982, sporting activities in Dujail were suspended due to the Dujail Massacre. After the year 2003, after the invasion of Iraq, the club's activity resumed and various sports teams were established, including the football team. Dujail ( ar, الدجيل; alternate spelling: Ad Dujayl) is a town in Saladin Governorate, Iraq. It is situated about north of Baghdad, and has approximately 100,000 inhabitants, who are mostly Shia. The Saladin or Salah Al-Din Governorate ( ar, محافظة صلاح الدين) is one of Iraq's 19 governorates, north of Baghdad. It has an area of , with an estimated population of 1,042,200 people in 2003. It is made up of 8 districts, with the capital being Tikrit. Before 1976 the province was part of Baghdad Governorate. Dujail Massacre
The Dujail massacre was a mass killing of Shia rebels by the Ba'athist Iraqi government on 8 July 1982 in Dujail, Iraq. The massacre was committed in retaliation to an earlier assassination attempt by the Shia Iranian supported Islamic Dawa Party against the then President of Iraq, Saddam Hussein. The town of Dujail had a large Shia population, with 75,000 residents at the time of the incident, and was a well-known stronghold of the Dawa Party. It is located approximately from the capital of Baghdad, in the Sunni-majority Saladin Governorate of Iraq. Hundreds of men, women and children were detained after the failed assassination attempt; more than 140 people were sentenced and executed for their alleged involvement in the plot, including four people who were mistakenly killed during the mass executions. The 2021–22 Iraq FA Cup is the 33rd edition of the Iraqi knockout football cup competition, the main domestic cup in Iraqi football, featuring a record 168 clubs from the top four tiers of the Iraqi football league system, (20 from the Iraqi Premier League, 24 from the Iraq Division One and 124 from the Iraq Division Two and Iraq Division Three).
