''Duel Arcane'' is a game of magical combat designed by John Shannonhouse and published by Gamelords in 1980. Components ''Duel Arcane'' consists of a 28-page rulebook with 4 pull-out character sheets. Gameplay ''Duel Arcane'' is a game of combat between magicians who have the ability to shapeshift into various animals. Before play begins, each player creates a mage by rolling dice to generate values for five abilities: Talent, Reflexes, Perception, Stamina and Resistance. From those values, seven more characteristics can be calculated: Hits to Unconsciousness, Hits to Kill, Fatigue Points, Initiative Roll Base, Accuracy Base, Parry Base and Damage Dice Base. The mage also has the ability to assume animal form, including a special totem form. To determine which animals, the player randomly determines the special totem form (or rarely, multiple totem forms). The player then randomly determines how many other animal forms can be learned. Gamelords
Gamelords was an American game company that produced tabletop role-playing games and game supplements. History Kerry Lloyd founded the company, with three friends - Richard Meyer, Janet Trautvetter, and Michael Watkins in 1980. Gamelords was centered in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Gamelords published the role-playing game '' Thieves' Guild'' in 1980. Looking to produce more group-oriented products for ''The Fantasy Trip'', Howard M. Thompson of Metagaming Concepts signed an agreement in 1982 with Gamelords to create a campaign world for the game, but he terminated the agreement after only two campaign books were published. When FASA ended its support of '' Traveller'', William H. Keith, Jr. and J. Andrew Keith moved their ''Traveller'' writing to Gamelords. Aaron Dale Allston (December 8, 1960 – February 27, 2014) was an American game designer and author of many science fiction books, notably ''Star Wars'' novels. TSR (company)
TSR, Inc. was an American game publishing company, best known as the original publisher of ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (''D&D''). Its earliest incarnation, Tactical Studies Rules, was founded in October 1973 by Gary Gygax and Don Kaye. Gygax had been unable to find a publisher for ''D&D'', a new type of game he and Dave Arneson were co-developing, so founded the new company with Kaye to self-publish their products. Needing financing to bring their new game to market, Gygax and Kaye brought in Brian Blume in December as an equal partner. ''Dungeons & Dragons'' is generally considered the first tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG), and established the genre. ''Pegasus'' was a gaming magazine published from 1981 to 1983 by Judges Guild. Contents ''Pegasus'' was a magazine containing a 32-page supplement in each issue, plus articles on AD&D variants, new magic and monsters, tips on gamemastering, fiction and reviews.
