Dudley Williams (public Servant)
Dudley Cadell Leslie Williams (190918 March 1985) is a former senior Australian public servant. He was Secretary of the Department of Shipping and Transport between 1957 and 1969. Life and career Dudley Williams was born in 1909. He attended Wesley College and Queen's College. Williams joined a predecessor to the Department of Shipping and Transport in 1943. In 1952, Williams was appointed to the Australian Ship-building Board as deputy chairman. He was appointed Secretary of the Department of Shipping and Transport in October 1957. Charles Hector McFadyen
Charles Hector McFadyen (29 October 189226 August 1965) was an Australian soldier, senior public servant and sportsman. He was a leading community figure in Canberra from inception until 1939 when he returned to Melbourne. He is best known for his time heading the Department of Shipping & Transport. In 1920, he played four games with the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Life and career McFadyen was born on 29 October 1892 in Melbourne, the son of Alexander McFadyen, railway worker, and his wife Mary Elizabeth. They lived in the suburb of Ascot Vale. Charles was the eldest of three children, with two sisters, Doris and Maude. Malcolm Macgregor Summers (1924September 1987) was a senior Australian public servant. He is best known for his time as Secretary of the Department of Shipping and Transport from 1969 to 1972. Life and career Summers was born in Queensland in 1925. He joined the Commonwealth Public Service in 1941 and moved to Canberra in the early 1950s to work for the Burueau of Census and Statistics. In March 1969, Summers was appointed Secretary of the Department of Shipping and Transport, a promotion from his position as deputy secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry. In the role, he worked to set up the Bureau of Transport Economics and brought in new funding arrangements for national highways, rail, urban transport, shipping and road safety.
