Dudley De Silva
Dudley Kenneth George de Silva (1911–1974) was a Sri Lankan educationist. He was Principal (school), Principal of Royal College Colombo and Director of Technical Education, Ministry of Education (Sri Lanka), Ministry of Education. Born in Ceylon, he was educated at Royal College Colombo and at the University College Colombo where he gained a BSc and later gained a Diploma in Education. He taught at Kingswood College, Kandy and became Principal of the Wanduramba Central School and of the Piliyandala Central College. He was an Education Officer in Charge of Adult Education. Thereafter he became the Principal of his alma mater, Royal College Colombo from 1954 to 1966. In 1966 he was made Director of Technical Education. Long after retiring as Principal, Royal College Colombo, he took up post as Principal, Pembroke Academy, Flower Road, Colombo 7. According to the Brookings Institution, Colombo metropolitan area has a population of 5.6 million, and 752,993 in the Municipality. It is the financial centre of the island and a tourist destination. Royal College, Colombo
Royal College, Colombo is a selective entry boys' school located in Cinnamon Gardens, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Started as a private school by Rev Joseph Marsh in 1835, it was established as the Colombo Academy by Sir Robert Wilmot-Horton in January 1836, as part of the implementation of the recommendations of the Colebrooke Cameron Commission (1833), and was the first government-run secondary school for boys in the island. Royal College is the first public school in Sri Lanka and is often referred to as the "Eton of Sri Lanka". The school was founded in the British public school tradition, based on the recommendations of the Colebrooke Cameron Commission (1833), and having been named the Royal College, Colombo in 1881 with consent from Queen Victoria, it became the first school to gain the prefix, "Royal", outside of the British Isles and it was one of the first schools to be designated as a national school by the Sri Lankan Government in the 1980s.
