Dudley Connell
Dudley Connell (born February 18, 1956) is an American singer in the bluegrass tradition. He is best known for his work with the Johnson Mountain Boys, Longview, and The Seldom Scene. Biography Early years Connell grew up in Rockville, Maryland. His parents were bluegrass enthusiasts. Connell initially played banjo like his father, but switched to guitar when he realized his strongest asset was his voice. Carter Stanley was a major influence on Connell's singing style. Johnson Mountain Boys In 1975, Connell founded and led the Johnson Mountain Boys, playing guitar and singing lead vocals. Other members included Richard Underwood (banjo), David McLaughlin (mandolin), Eddie Stubbs (fiddle) and Gary B Reid (bass). Scherr is an unincorporated community in Grant County, West Virginia, United States. The community's name is pronounced like "sheer." Blue Sky Boys
The Blue Sky Boys were an American country music duo consisting of the brothers Earl Bolick (November 16, 1919 – April 19, 1998) and Bill Bolick (October 28, 1917 – March 13, 2008), whose careers spanned over forty years. Tony Trischka
Anthony Cattell Trischka (born January 16, 1949) is an American five-string banjo player. Sandra Brennan wrote of him in 2021: "One of the most influential modern banjoists, both in several forms of bluegrass music and occasionally in jazz and avant-garde, Tony Trischka has inspired a whole generation of progressive bluegrass musicians." Music career A native of Syracuse, New York, Trischka's interest in banjo was sparked by the Kingston Trio's version of " Charlie and the MTA" in 1963. Two years later, he joined the Down City Ramblers, where he remained through 1971. Bill Grant and Delia Bell were a bluegrass music duo from Oklahoma. Emmylou Harris has said of Delia Bell: "If Hank Williams and Kitty Wells had married and had a daughter, she would have sounded like Delia Bell." Grant was recognized as "Ambassador of Bluegrass Music" by three Oklahoma governors. Biography Early career Delia Bell was born Francis Leona Nowell on April 16, 1935 in Bonham, Texas. ''Dream Scene'' is an album by the progressive bluegrass Maryland band The Seldom Scene. There were several personnel changes in the group after the unsuccessful comeback with John Starling. Mike Auldridge, Moondi Klein, and T. Michael Coleman left the group to form progressive band Chesapeake. Duffey and Eldridge recruited guitarist/singer Dudley Connell, dobroist Fred Travers and bass player Ronnie Simpkins to continue with the group. This album would be the last for John Duffey who died late in 1996.
