Duchess Of Kent
Duchess of Kent is the principal courtesy title used by the wife of the Duke of Kent. There have been four titles referring to Kent since the 18th century. The current duchess is Katharine, the wife of Prince Edward. He inherited the dukedom on 25 August 1942 upon the death of his father, Prince George, the fourth son of George V. History Henry Grey, 12th Earl of Kent since 1702 (of the eighth creation in the peerage of England) was raised to the peerage of Great Britain in 1706 under Queen Anne as Marquess of Kent, Earl of Harold and Viscount Goderich, then as Duke of Kent in 1710. In 1694, he had married Jemima Crew, who became Countess, Marchioness and then Duchess of Kent in 1702, 1706 and 1710 respectively. She died in 1728. In 1729, he married Sophia Bentinck, who died exactly a year after he did. Katharine, Duchess of Kent, (born Katharine Lucy Mary Worsley, 22 February 1933) is a member of the British royal family. She is married to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, a grandson of King George V. William Bentinck, 1st Earl Of Portland
Hans William Bentinck, 1st Earl of Portland, (20 July 164923 November 1709) was a Dutch and English nobleman who became in an early stage the favourite of William, Prince of Orange, Stadtholder in the Netherlands, and future King of England. Thomas Crew, 2nd Baron Crew (1624 – 30 November 1697) of Steane, Northamptonshire was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1654 and 1679, when he inherited the peerage Baron Crew. Life Crew was the son of John Crew, 1st Baron Crew and his wife Jemima Waldegrave, daughter of Edward Waldegrave of Lawford Hall, Essex. He was a student of Gray's Inn in 1641 and was studying in Padua in 1647. In 1656, Crew was elected Member of Parliament for Northamptonshire in the Second Protectorate Parliament. He was elected MP for Brackley in 1659 for the Third Protectorate Parliament. In 1660, Crew was elected MP for Brackley in the Convention Parliament. Baron Crew, of Stene in the County of Northampton, was a title in the Peerage of England. It was created on 20 April 1661 for the politician John Crew, 1st Baron Crew, John Crew.
