House Of Savoy
The House of Savoy ( it, Casa Savoia) was a royal dynasty that was established in 1003 in the historical Savoy region. Through gradual expansion, the family grew in power from ruling a small Alpine county north-west of Italy to absolute rule of the Kingdom of Sicily from 1713 to 1720, when they were handed the island of Sardinia, over which they would exercise direct rule from then onward. Through its junior branch of Savoy-Carignano, the House of Savoy led the Italian unification in 1860 and ruled the Kingdom of Italy until 1946; they also briefly ruled the Kingdom of Spain in the 19th century. The Savoyard kings of Italy were Victor Emmanuel II, Umberto I, Victor Emmanuel III, and Umberto II. The County of La Marche (; oc, la Marcha) was a medieval French county, approximately corresponding to the modern ''département'' of Creuse. La Marche first appeared as a separate fief about the middle of the 10th century, when William III, Duke of Aquitaine, gave it to one of his vassals, Boson, who took the title of Count. In the 12th century, the countship passed to the House of Lusignan. They also were sometimes counts of Angoulême and counts of Limousin. With the death of the childless Count Guy in 1308, his possessions in La Marche were seized by Philip IV of France. In 1314, the king made La Marche an ''appanage'' for his youngest son the Prince, afterwards Charles IV. Several years later in 1327, La Marche passed into the hands of the House of Bourbon. The family of Armagnac held it from 1435 to 1477, when it reverted to the Bourbons. In 1527 La Marche was seized by Francis I and became part of the domains of the French crown. Beatrice of Burgundy (1257 – October 1, 1310) was a ruling Lady of Bourbon in 1288-1310 and, through her mother, heiress of all Bourbon estates. She was the daughter of John of Burgundy (son of Hugh IV, Duke of Burgundy) and Agnes of Dampierre, Lady of Bourbon. In 1272 Beatrice married Robert, Count of Clermont and their eldest son Louis I, ''le Boiteux'' became the first Duke of Bourbon. The House of Burgundy () was a cadet branch of the Capetian dynasty, descending from Robert I, Duke of Burgundy, a younger son of King Robert II of France. The House ruled the Duchy of Burgundy from 1032–1361 and achieved the recognized title of King of Portugal. The last member of the House was Philip of Rouvres, who succeeded his grandfather in 1349. Philip died childless in 1361 and the duchy reverted to his liege, who two years later created his son the new duke of Burgundy, thus beginning the ''Younger House of Burgundy''. Archambaud IX of Bourbon (died 15 January 1249), called "''Le Jeune''" ("The Young"), was a ruler (sire) of Bourbonnais in the modern region of Auvergne, France. He was the son of Archambaud VIII of Bourbon. He married Yolande I, Countess of Nevers. Guy IV (c. 1197 – 1226) of the House of Châtillon was the ''de facto'' count of Saint-Pol as Guy II''L'Art de vérifier les dates'', vol. 3 (Paris, 1818)pp. 309–310 from 1219/1223 until his death. Born around 1197, Guy was the eldest son of Walter III of Châtillon and Elizabeth, heiress of Saint-Pol. Upon his father's death in 1219, he inherited the castle of Montjay-la-Tour and the county of Saint-Pol, although his mother retained the right of residence for life. His younger brother, Hugh, inherited Châtillon, Crécy and the butlership of the county of Champagne. Guy and Hugh consented to their father placing his lands under the guardianship of Philip of Nanteuil, his executor.
