Theresa Ducharme (1945 – June 7, 2004) was a Canadian disability rights activist and a perennial candidate for public office. She lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Activist After contracting polio in 1953, Ducharme was reliant on a wheelchair. She subsequently went into a coma for six months during her mid-twenties, and for the rest of her life required a respirator. She founded the disability rights advocacy group People in Equal Participation Inc. in 1981, and was the organization's chair for many years thereafter. In 1981, she became the first person requiring an on-board life-support system to fly as a regular passenger on a commercial Canadian airliner. Severin Ducharme (November 26, 1866 – December 30, 1952) was an Ontario real estate and insurance agent and political figure. He represented Essex North in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Liberal member from 1914 to 1919. He was born in Joliette County,(at St Felix de Valois?) Canada East, the son of Pierre Ducharme, and came to Belle River, Rochester Township in Essex County, Ontario with his family in 1874. Ducharme taught school in Belle River for two years. Richard Ducharme
Richard C. Ducharme P.Eng. (born 1948) has served as an administrator for several Canadian transit and transportation authorities, most recently as General Manager of Transportation for the City of Edmonton. Ducharme graduated from the University of Waterloo as a civil engineer in 1972 and joined Ontario's Ministry of Transportation. He then moved on to GO Transit as a transit coordinator in 1976. He served in various roles and eventually became managing director in 1993. Réjean Ducharme (August 12, 1941 – August 21, 2017) was a Québécois novelist and playwright who resided in Montreal. He was known for his reclusive personality and did not appear at any public functions since his first successful book was published in 1966. A common theme of his early work was the rejection of the adult world by children. Jean-Marie Ducharme
Jean-Marie Ducharme (July 19, 1723 – July 20, 1807) was a fur trader and political figure in New France, British Quebec, and Lower Canada. He was born in Lachine, New France in 1723, the son of a farmer there who also was involved in the fur trade. He entered the fur trade in the southwest. He helped establish the French establish Fort Duquesne near the current site of Pittsburgh. After the British took control of Quebec, Ducharme began operating near what is now Green Bay, Wisconsin, then known as La Baye. In 1763, he transported ammunition to Michilimackinac, contravening a British ban. He was later arrested and imprisoned at Montreal. In 1772, Ducharme was trading with the Little Osages on the Missouri River, leading to an attempt by the Spanish to capture him; his furs were confiscated, but Ducharme managed to escape to Montreal.
