The Dublin Midlands Hospital Group ( ga, Grúpa Ospidéal Lár Tíre Bhaile Átha Cliath) is one of the hospital groups established by the Health Service Executive in Ireland. History The grouping of hospitals was announced by the Irish Minister for Health, Dr. James Reilly TD in May 2013, as part of a restructure of Irish public hospitals and a goal of delivering better patient care. The Health Service Executive (HSE) ( ga, Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte) is the publicly funded healthcare system in Ireland, responsible for the provision of health and personal social services. It came into operation on 1 January 2005. The current Director-General is Stephen Mulvany on an interim basis, after Paul Reid stepped down in October 2022. James Reilly (Irish Politician)
James Reilly (born 16 August 1955) is an Irish former Fine Gael politician, businessman and medical doctor who served as a Senator from May 2016 to March 2020. He previously served as Acting Minister for Children and Youth Affairs from February to May 2016, Minister for Health from March 2011 to July 2014 and deputy leader of Fine Gael from 2010 to 2017. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin North constituency from 2007 to 2016. He subsequently announced his retirement from politics after he lost his bid for election for his old seat at the 2020 general election. Personal life Reilly graduated with a medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1979 and is a qualified General Practitioner. The Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital (; ga, Ospidéal Ollscoile Ban ⁊ Naonáin an Chúim) is a voluntary teaching hospital providing a range of medical services to both women and newborn infants in Dublin, Ireland. It is managed by Dublin Midlands Hospital Group. History The hospital was founded by Margaret Boyle in the vacated building of the Meath Hospital in the Coombe in Dublin's Liberties area in 1826. It formally opened as the Coombe Lying-in Hospital in 1829 and was granted a Royal Charter in 1867. The hospital moved to modern premises nearby in Dolphin's Barn in 1967. Although the old hospital was demolished, the portico was retained as a monument to the many mothers who gave birth in the old hospital. The Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise ( ga, Ospidéal Réigiúnach Lár Tíre, Port Laoise) is a public hospital located in Portlaoise, County Laois, Ireland.
