Dublin Blue Stars
The Dublin Bus/''Evening Herald'' Dubs Stars Football/Hurling are the players chosen as the top Gaelic football and hurling players in their given position in the year that the Blue stars awards are awarded. The Dublin Blue Stars are a similar award to the GAA All Stars Awards which are awarded annually by the Gaelic Athletic Association. Dublin traditionally play against the Blue stars team in a challenge match, which proves to be an opportunity to see and try out new players for the Dublin football and Hurling teams. The 2006 Blues Star football challenge match ended with Dublin winning the game by a scoreline of 3–17 to 0–12. The 2006 Blue Star Hurling match was also won by Dublin, the game finished on a scoreline of 2–19 to 0–10. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. Paul Copeland (footballer)
Paul Copeland C.M. (born February 19, 1940) is a retired Toronto-based human rights lawyer, who is widely known as the defence attorney of security certificate detainee Mohamed Harkat, and an avid supporter of legal aid. Copeland co-founded the Law Union of Ontario in 1974 and was the Vice-President of the Criminal Lawyers' Association from 1985 to 1991 and was for several years the co-president of the Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted until the fall of 2008. He was elected a Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada from 1990 to 2007, and was then made a life bencher of the society. He has been a retired life bencher since 2022. Diarmuid Connolly
Diarmuid Connolly (born 7 July 1987) is an Irish Gaelic footballer. His league and championship career at senior level as a forward playing for the Dublin county team initially spanned 11 seasons from 2007 until 2018 when he left the panel after appearing in a league game against Mayo in February 2018. In July 2019, Dublin senior football manager Jim Gavin confirmed in an interview with Dubs TV that Connolly was back training with the Dublin panel for the 2019 Championship. Austin O'Malley
Austin O'Malley is a Gaelic footballer who plays for St Patrick's and the Wicklow county team. O'Malley won the Dublin Senior Football Championship with UCD in 2006. The Louisburgh native was involved in a transfer process which brought him to Dublin club St Vincent's. The story was leaked to Dublin newspaper, the ''Metro''. Alan Brogan
Alan Brogan (born 11 January 1982) is a Gaelic footballer from the St Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh club who played for the Dublin county team from 2002 until his retirement in 2015. He can play in the full forward line but usually played centre half forward for Dublin. From a famous family, Brogan, is the son of former all-Ireland winning and All Star player Bernard Snr and is the brother of Dublin players Bernard Jnr and Paul. Billy Sheehan
William Sheehan (born March 19, 1953) is an American musician. He is best known for playing the bass guitar with acts such as Talas, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big, Niacin, and The Winery Dogs. He is also known for his "lead bass" playing style, including the use of chording, two-handed tapping, "three-finger picking" technique and controlled feedback. Sheehan has been voted "Best Rock Bass Player" five times in ''Guitar Player'' readers' polls. Pat Gilroy
Pat Gilroy (born 3 November 1971) is a former Gaelic footballer and manager, who most recently managed the senior Dublin county team (2009-2012). A former Dublin footballer himself, he led Dublin to their first All-Ireland Senior Football Championship title in 16 years in 2011. In 2009, Gilroy's selectors were Mickey Whelan, Paul Nugent and Paddy O'Donoghue. Transplant surgeon David Hickey replaced Paul Nugent as a selector for the 2010 season., while fellow surgeon Ian Robertson replaced Mickey Whelan in 2012. Coman Goggins is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Dublin county team, winning an All Star, from the Ballinteer St Johns club. He went to school in Coláiste Eoin, Stillorgan. He is therefore a fluent Irish speaker. Coman was the only Dublin player to receive an All-star in 2001, although, this came as a great honour in a year in which Dublin collected no silverware. UCD GAA
UCD GAA or University College Dublin Gaelic Athletic Association club is a Dublin based Gaelic games club in University College Dublin. The UCD hurling club was founded in 1900 and boasted the mottos "Ad Astra" and "Cothrom Féinne". The first team was an amalgamation of students from UCD and Cecilia St. Although UCD had been playing Gaelic football unofficially since 1900, the official club history began in the season of 1911/1912.
