Duane W. Rimel
Duane Weldon Rimel (February 21, 1915 – September 30, 1996) was an American writer of speculative fiction, speculative and erotic literature who is best known for his friendship with H. P. Lovecraft. Life Duane W. Rimel was born to Pearl Guy Rimel and Florance F. (née Wilsey) Rimel on February 21, 1915, in Asotin, Washington. His father was a painter, while his mother worked as a secretary. In 1934, he graduated from Asotin Junior Senior High School, Asotin High School. H. P. Lovecraft began corresponding with Rimel after becoming aware of him in 1933. The resulting correspondence continued until Lovecraft's death in 1937. He introduced Rimel to F. Lee Baldwin, another author and resident of Asotin, Washington. Lovecraft tutored Rimel in the writing of weird fiction by giving him advice and weird texts from his personal library. Asotin is the county seat of the county of the same name, in the state of Washington, United States. The population of the city was 1,251 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lewiston, ID-WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The name Asotin is derived from a Nez Perce language term meaning "eel creek," founded in 1878 by Alexander Sumpster. A river ferry stop at Asotin was set up by 1881. Geography Asotin is located south of Clarkston, on the west bank of the Snake River. The elevation is above sea level. Lovecraftian Horror
Lovecraftian horror, sometimes used interchangeably with "cosmic horror", is a subgenre of horror fiction and weird fiction that emphasizes the horror of the unknowable and incomprehensible more than gore or other elements of shock.
