Duane Carrell
Duane Blore Carrell (born October 3, 1949) is a former American football punter in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, New York Jets, and St. Louis Cardinals. He played college football at Florida State University. Early years Carrell attended Woodrow Wilson High School. He accepted a football scholarship from Florida State University, where he was a punter and placekicker. As a sophomore, he became a starter at punter, registering 32 punts for 1,169 yards (36.5 yard average) and a long of 50 yards. As a junior, he was ranked 17th in the country with a punting average of 40.6 yards, while making 63 punts for 2,556 yards with a long of 68 yards. As a senior, he posted 53 punts for 1,921 yards (36.2-yard average) and a long of 54 yards. Punter (American Football)
A punter (P) in gridiron football is a special teams player who receives the snap (gridiron football), snapped ball directly from the line of scrimmage and then Punt (gridiron football), punts (kicks) the football to the opposing team so as to limit any field position advantage. This generally happens on a fourth down in American football and a third down in Canadian football. The 1979 NFL season was the 60th regular season of the National Football League. The season ended with Super Bowl XIV when the Pittsburgh Steelers repeated as champions by defeating the Los Angeles Rams 31–19 at the Rose Bowl. The 1978 NFL season was the 59th regular season of the National Football League. The league expanded the regular season from a 14-game schedule to 16 games, which it remained in place until 2021 when it was increased to 17 games. Furthermore, the playoff format was expanded from 8 teams to 10 teams by adding another wild card from each conference. Terrance Patrick Joyce (July 18, 1954 – June 17, 2011) was an American football player. 1977 NFL Season
The 1977 NFL season was the 58th regular season of the National Football League. The two second-year expansion teams switched conferences, with the Seattle Seahawks moving from the NFC West to the AFC West, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers transferring from the AFC West to the NFC Central. Instead of a traditional Thanksgiving Day game hosted by the Dallas Cowboys, the league scheduled a Miami Dolphins at St. Louis Cardinals contest. This would be only the second season since 1966 that the Cowboys did not play on that holiday. It marked the last time that the Cowboys did not play on Thanksgiving. 1976 NFL Season
The 1976 NFL season was the 57th regular season of the National Football League. The league expanded to 28 teams with the addition of Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This fulfilled one of the conditions agreed to in 1966 for the 1970 AFL–NFL merger, which called for the league to expand to 28 teams by 1970 or soon thereafter. For this season only, the Seahawks played in the NFC West while the Buccaneers played in the AFC West. The Seahawks would return to the NFC West with the realignment prior to the 2002 season. The Buccaneers became the first NFL team to finish a season 0–14. The Buccaneers lost their first 26 games as they also lost their first 12 games in 1977. Mitch Hoopes
Mitchell Kent Hoopes (July 8, 1953 – August 11, 2020) was an American football punter in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys, San Diego Chargers, Houston Oilers, Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles. He also was a member of the Boston Breakers in the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football at the University of Arizona. Hoopes died on August 11, 2020, aged 67. Early years Hoopes attended Benson High School in Benson, Arizona, where he played as a halfback in Class B football. He received All-Conference, All-State and All-Star honors. He enrolled at Eastern Arizona Junior College. He transferred after his sophomore season to the University of Arizona to play defensive back and punter. The 1975 NFL season was the 56th regular season of the National Football League. Instead of a traditional Thanksgiving Day game hosted by the Dallas Cowboys, the league scheduled a Buffalo Bills at St. Louis Cardinals contest. Marvin Fredrick Bateman (born April 5, 1950) is a former American football punter in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills. He played college football at the University of Utah. Early years Bateman attended Highland High School, where he competed in football, basketball and baseball. He accepted a football scholarship from the University of Utah. He led the nation in punting in his last 2 years and became the first Utah football player to receive first-team All-American honors two years in a row. As a senior, he set school records for average yards per punt (48.07) and total punt yardage (3,269). During his college career he was also the team's placekicker, making 21 field goals (sixth in school history), converting 51 percent of his attempts and had a school record 59 yard field goal.
