Duane is both a given name for a male, and a family name. The name derives from St. Dubhán, who established an abbey in Hook Head, Ireland, during the 5th century. As a surname it is O'Dubhain, or Dubhan. Dubhain was a popular given name in 16th century southern Ireland; its anglicized form is Duane. In the United States, Duane became a popular name around the 1920s and remained one of the 200 most popular names for about 50 years. The spelling Dwayne was adopted as time went on, most likely because of the also popular name Wayne. Duane Butler (born November 9, 1973) is a former gridiron football linebacker / defensive back. He played college football at Illinois State. College career Duane Butler attended Illinois State University. While there, he was a three time All-Conference selection, and left school with the school's fifth most career tackles record with 332 tackles. Professional career Butler began his career as a free agent, eventually playing in the NFL for the Minnesota Vikings, in 1997 for three games and in 1998 for fourteen games. In 1998, he also played for the London Monarchs of the NFL Europa. In 1999, he tried out for the Cleveland Browns. Gillberg (wrestler)
Duane Gill (born July 10, 1959) is an American retired professional wrestler, best known for his appearances in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) during the Attitude Era under the ring name Gillberg, a parody of then-rival promotion World Championship Wrestling's top star Goldberg. During his tenure in the WWF, Gill became a one-time Light Heavyweight Champion. He held the title for 15 months, becoming the longest reigning Light Heavyweight Champion as recognized by WWE. Duane Ferrell (born February 28, 1965) is an American retired professional basketball player. He played 11 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers and Golden State Warriors. He played college basketball at Georgia Tech, where he was twice named All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). He attended the Sorbonne in Paris for one semester in 1963 and earned a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Idaho in 1966. Duane Eddy (born April 26, 1938) is an American rock and roll guitarist. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he had a string of hit records produced by Lee Hazlewood, which were noted for their characteristically "twangy" sound, including "Rebel-'Rouser", "Peter Gunn", and "Because They're Young". He had sold 12 million records by 1963. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2008. Early life Eddy was born in Corning, New York. Duane Jerome Courtney (born 7 January 1985) is an English semi-professional footballer who plays as a right-back for club Highgate United. He has played in the Football League for Burnley. Duane Anthony Clemons (born May 23, 1974) is a former American Football defensive end who played in the National Football League between 1996 and 2005. He was a first-round selection in the 1996 NFL Draft out of the University of California, Berkeley by the Minnesota Vikings. He finished his NFL career with 49.5 sacks. Despite struggling to see the field as a starter (16 starts in 4 years with Minnesota), Clemons proved a very capable sack artist. Duane Ramsdell "Dewey" Clarridge (April 16, 1932 – April 9, 2016) was an American senior operations officer for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and supervisor for more than 30 years.
