''Družba Pere Kvržice'' ("Pero the Lump's gang") is a 1933 children's novel written by Croatian children's novelist Mato Lovrak. The plot concerns a group of children headed by Pero "Kvržica", who secretly decide to restore a disused village mill. It remains Lovrak's second best known work, after his first novel, ''Vlak u snijegu''. In 1970 the novel was made into a theatrical film of the same title, directed by Vladimir Tadej Vladimir Tadej (9 May 1925 – 1 March 2017) was a Croatian production designer, screenwriter and film director. Mato Lovrak
Mato Lovrak (8 March 1899 - 14 March 1974) was a Croatian children's literature writer. Biography Mato Lovrak was born on 8 March 1899 in Veliki Grđevac. Lovrak finished teacher training college in Zagreb and served as teacher in Kutina, Veliki Grđevac, Veliki Zdenci and Zagreb. Lovrak wrote realistic short stories and novels for children. His most famous works are "'' Vlak u snijegu''" ("A Train in the Snow"), "'' Družba Pere Kvržice''" ("Pero Kvržica's Gang"). Those novels were the basis for two children's movies with the same names. ''Vlak u snijegu'' ( en, A Train in the Snow), first called ''Djeca Velikog Sela'' --"The children of Veliko Selo") is a children's novel written by Croatian novelist Mato Lovrak (1899–1974), then a young schoolteacher inspired by actual events, in 1931. Plot At the suggestion of their teacher, fourth grade schoolchildren in imaginary "Jabukovac, near Veliko Selo", create an association and organize a field trip to the nearby town.
