Drury Lacy Jr.
Drury Lacy Jr. was the third president of Davidson College. A native of Virginia, he was a Presbyterian pastor at a church in New Bern, North Carolina and then in Raleigh, North Carolina before becoming president. As president, Davidson received a large financial commitment from a Maxwell Chambers, making Davidson the wealthiest private college in the entire South. New Bern, North Carolina
New Bern, formerly called Newbern, is a city in Craven County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 29,524, which had risen to an estimated 29,994 as of 2019. It is the county seat of Craven County and the principal city of the New Bern Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located at the confluence of the Neuse and the Trent rivers, near the North Carolina coast. It lies east of Raleigh, north of Wilmington, and south of Norfolk. New Bern is the birthplace of Pepsi. New Bern was founded in October 1710 by the Palatines and Swiss under the leadership of Christoph von Graffenried. The Confederate States Army, also called the Confederate Army or the Southern Army, was the military land force of the Confederate States of America (commonly referred to as the Confederacy) during the American Civil War (1861–1865), fighting against the United States forces to win the independence of the Southern states and uphold the institution of slavery. On February 28, 1861, the Provisional Confederate Congress established a provisional volunteer army and gave control over military operations and authority for mustering state forces and volunteers to the newly chosen Confederate president, Jefferson Davis. Davidson College
Davidson College is a private liberal arts college in Davidson, North Carolina. It was established in 1837 by the Concord Presbytery and named after Revolutionary War general William Lee Davidson, who was killed at the nearby Battle of Cowan’s Ford. Davidson is a four-year undergraduate institution and enrolls 1,973 students from 50 states and territories, Washington, DC, and 46 countries. Samuel Williamson was the second president of Davidson College. After graduating from the University of South Carolina, Williamson entered the ministry. He arrived at Davidson in 1839 as a professor and then was appointed as president in 1841, becoming the longest serving president of the college during the 19th century. A pastor (abbreviated as "Pr" or "Ptr" , or "Ps" ) is the leader of a Christian congregation who also gives advice and counsel to people from the community or congregation. Union Presbyterian Seminary is a Presbyterian seminary in Richmond, Virginia. It also has a non-residential campus in Charlotte, North Carolina and an online blended learning program.
