Drupella
''Drupella'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Muricidae, the murex snails or rock snails. This genus was placed in the family Muricidae by Drivas & Jay, 1988 and by Richmond, 1997. Description ''Drupella'' can be recognised by their extremely long, thin lateral teeth. The shells and radulae vary considerably even within species, complicating the taxonomy of the genus. The colour of the shell aperture varies from white to purple. Some species show sexual dimorphism in their radulae, with males having larger rachidian teeth than females. Diet Snails of this genus are specialist predators of coral polyps. Species Species within the genus ''Drupella'' include: * '' Drupella cornus'' ( Röding, 1798) * '' Drupella eburnea'' (Küster, 1862) * ''Drupella fragum'' ( Blainville, 1832) * '' Drupella minuta'' Fujioka, 1984 * ''Drupella rugosa'' (Born, 1778) * '' Drupella margariticola''MolluscaBase (2018). Drupella Cornus
''Drupella cornus'', common name : the horn drupe, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Muricidae, the murex snails or rock snails. Description The shell size of an adult varies between 28 mm and 40 mm. This whitish shell shows four rows of spiny, pointed nodules with numerous smaller spines between. The oval aperture is yellow. The outer lip is with three to four teeth. ''Drupella cornus'' lays benthic egg capsules, which hatch into free-swimming planktonic veliger larvae ''Drupella cornus'' is a predator of living coral, grazing on the coral tissue. An abundance of this snail can cause significant destruction to the hard-coral cover on reefs. There is a possible link between coral diseases and an outbreak of this snail. The snail is attracted to ''Montipora'' corals when these corals secrete montiporic acids Habitat ''Drupella cornus'' commonly occurs on or under tabular corals of the genera ''Acropora'' and ''Montipora'' or on ...

Drupella Rugosa
''Drupella rugosa'', common name : the rugose drupe, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Muricidae, the murex snails or rock snails. Description ''Drupella rugosa'' is a creamy white to orange, conical shell with a height between 20 mm and 35 mm. The sculpture shows five spiral rows of rounded brown nodules separated by twelve axial ribs with fine granules, giving the shell a knobby appearance. The columella is narrow and the anal sinus hardly shows. The elliptical aperture is narrowed by protruding plaits. The outer lip is with five or six teeth. Feeding patterns ''Drupella rugosa'' is an obligate corallivore that grazes on the tissue of live corals, especially fast growing or structurally diverse corals such as '' Acropora'' and '' Montipora''. Over-populations or outbreaks of the snail have been recorded in multiple regions since the 1980s, and generally occur on reefs impacted by human activities or following mass mortality event ...

Muricidae
Muricidae is a large and varied taxonomic family of small to large predatory sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks, commonly known as murex snails or rock snails. With about 1,600 living species, the Muricidae represent almost 10% of the Neogastropoda. Additionally, 1,200 fossil species have been recognized.Merle, D., Garrigues, B. & Pointier, J.-P. (2011). ''Fossil and Recent Muricidae of the World, Part Muricinae''. 648 pp., 182 colour plates, ConchBooks, Hackenheim. . Numerous subfamilies are recognized, although experts disagree about the subfamily divisions and the definitions of the genera. Many muricids have unusual shells which are considered attractive by shell collectors and by interior designers. Shell description Muricid shells are variably shaped, generally with a raised spire and strong sculpture with spiral ridges and often axial varices (typically three or more varices on each whorl), also frequently bearing spines, tubercles, or blade-like processes. Henri Marie Ducrotay De Blainville
Henri Marie Ducrotay de Blainville (; 12 September 1777 – 1 May 1850) was a French zoologist and anatomist. Life Blainville was born at Arques, near Dieppe. As a young man he went to Paris to study art, but ultimately devoted himself to natural history. He attracted the attention of Georges Cuvier, for whom he occasionally substituted as lecturer at the Collège de France and at the Athenaeum Club, London. In 1812 he was aided by Cuvier in acquiring the position of assistant professor of anatomy and zoology in the Faculty of Sciences at Paris. Eventually, relations between the two men soured, a situation that ended in open enmity. In 1819, Blainville was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia. In 1825 he was admitted a member of the French Academy of Sciences; and in 1830 he was appointed to succeed Jean-Baptiste Lamarck in the chair of natural history at the museum. Two years later, on the death of Cuvier, he obtained the chair of comparative a ...
