Drosia
Drosia ( el, Δροσιά, meaning "dew", before 1947: Ρωσσοχώρι - ''Rossochori'') is a suburb in Athens, Attica, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Dionysos, of which it is a municipal unit. Drosia is a mainly residential suburb, known for its location in the midst of evergreen pine forests. During the extreme heat of Greek summers, many people from whole Athens drive up to Drosia on the weekends, seeking cool and shade in the taverns, cafes and one outdoor cinema theater, for which the area is known. Geography Drosia is situated in the hills in the northeastern part of the Athens conurbation, at about 370 m elevation. The municipal unit has an area of 2.201 km2. It lies at the northwestern foot of the Penteliko Mountain. It is 1 km southwest of Stamata, 3 km northeast of Ekali, 3 km south of Agios Stefanos and 19 km northeast of Athens city centre. Dionysos, Greece
Dionysos ( el, Διόνυσος) is a north suburb of Athens and a municipality in northeastern Attica, Greece. The seat of the municipality is the town Agios Stefanos. Geography Dionysos is situated on the northeastern slopes of the forested Penteliko Mountains. It is 5 km south of Agios Stefanos, 9 km west of Nea Makri, on the Aegean Sea coast, and 18 km northeast of Athens city centre. Its built-up area is continuous with those of the neighbouring suburbs Drosia and Rodopoli to the northwest. Even though the town is located only 20 Kilometres away from central Athens, it has a completely different climate, with weather being significantly cooler, including frequent snowfall during the winter. Rodopoli
Rodopoli ( el, Ροδόπολη, meaning "City of Roses", before 1981: Μπάλα - ''Bala'') is a suburban town in Athens, East Attica regional unit, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Dionysos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 9.550 km2. Geography Rodopoli is situated in the hills in the northeastern part of the Athens conurbation, at about 400 m elevation. It lies at the northwestern foot of the Penteliko Mountain. It is 1 km south of Stamata, 2 km north of Dionysos and 19 km northeast of Athens city centre. Its built-up area is continuous with those of the neighbouring towns Drosia and Dionysos. Part of Rodopoli has retained its old village character, while its eastern (and higher elevation) part has seen the development of higher quality residential properties. Stamata
Stamata ( el, Σταμάτα) is a community in East Attica, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality Dionysos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 18.950 km2. Stamata is a rather exclusive suburb, situated between the Parnitha and Penteli mountains, about 23 km northeast of Athens. Till the last decades, only the main village was inhabited, while the rural area was cultivated by the inhabitants of the village. Nowadays, there are also residences in the settlement of Amygdaleza (Αμυγδαλέζα) and the residential associations of Euxeinos Pontos (Εύξεινος Πόντος) and Prokonisos (Προκόνησος). Ekali
Ekali ( el, Εκάλη) is an affluent suburb of Athens, Greece. Located to the north of the city centre, it is a green and lush area home to many of the country's most powerful business and shipping families. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality of Kifisia, as a municipal unit. Etymology Ekali was an ancient municipality of Athens and belonged to the Leontida tribe. Its inhabitants were named Ekalios. According to tradition, the name is associated with the name of a woman named Ekali. As Plutarch says, as Theseus went to Marathon to catch the famous bull that had caused great damage to the area, the weather conditions were unfavorable. The Athenian king sought refuge in the hut of an old woman, called Ekali. The old woman promised Theseus that she would make a sacrifice to Zeus for the success of his mission. Penteliko Mountain
Mount Pentelicus or Pentelikon (, or ) is a mountain in Attica, Greece, situated northeast of Athens and southwest of Marathon. Its highest point is the peak ''Pyrgari'', with an elevation of 1,109 m. The mountain is covered in large part with forest (about 60 or 70%), and can be seen from southern Athens (Attica), the Pedia plain, Parnitha, and the southern part of the northern suburbs of Athens. Houses surround the mountain, especially in Vrilissia, Penteli, Ekali, Dionysos and north of Gerakas. Marble from Mount Pentelicus is of exceptionally high quality and was used to construct much of the Athenian Acropolis.
