Drosera Subhirtella
''Drosera subhirtella'', the sunny rainbow, is a scrambling or climbing perennial tuberous species in the carnivorous plant genus ''Drosera''. It is endemic to Western Australia and is found in sandplains, granite outcrops, and swamp margins in sand, clay, and loam soils. ''D. subhirtella'' produces small carnivorous leaves along stems that can be high. Yellow flowers bloom from August to October. ''Drosera subhirtella'' was first described by Jules Émile Planchon in 1848. A new variety of ''D. subhirtella'', var. ''moorei'', was described by Ludwig Diels in his 1906 monograph on the Droseraceae. In 1982, N. G. Jules Émile Planchon (21 March 1823 – 1 April 1888) was a French botanist born in Ganges, Hérault. Biography After receiving his Doctorate of Science at the University of Montpellier in 1844, he worked for a while at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Royal Botanical Gardens in London, and for a few years was a teacher in Nancy, France, Nancy and Ghent. In 1853 he became head of the department of botanical sciences at the University of Montpellier, where he remained for the remainder of his career. Planchon was highly regarded in scientific circles, and made a number of contributions in his classification of botanical species and varieties. He is credited with publishing over 2000 botanical names, including ''Actinidia chinensis'', better known as the "golden kiwifruit". Ludwig Diels
Dr. Friedrich Ludwig Emil Diels (24 September 1874 – 30 November 1945) was a German botanist. Diels was born in Hamburg, the son of the classical scholar Hermann Alexander Diels. From 1900 to 1902 he traveled together with Ernst Georg Pritzel through South Africa, Java, Australia and New Zealand. Shortly before the First World War he travelled New Guinea and in the 1930s in Ecuador. Especially his collections of plants from Australia and Ecuador, which contained numerous holotypes, enriched the knowledge of the concerning floras. His monography on the Droseraceae from 1906 is still a standard. The majority of his collections were stored at the botanical garden in Berlin-Dahlem, whose vicedirector he had been since 1913, becoming its director in 1921 until 1945. His collections were destroyed there during an air raid in 1943. He died in Berlin on 30 November 1945.
