Drimnagh Luas Stop
Drimnagh ( ga, Droimeanach) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2004 as a stop on the Red Line. The stop is located on a section of track which runs alongside the Grand Canal, in Drimnagh. It provides access to Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin and the Richmond Barracks. The stop was built at the same time as a footbridge which allows access to areas on the north of the canal. However, unlike the nearby Goldenbridge, the bridge is not step-free accessible. The stop is also served by Dublin Bus route 123. Red Line (Luas)
The Red Line () is one of the two lines of Dublin's Luas light rail system. The Red Line runs in an east–west direction through the city centre, north of the River Liffey, before travelling southwest to Tallaght, with a fork to Citywest and Saggart. The Red Line opened on 26 September 2004. History Construction work began in March 2001 on the Tallaght to Connolly line, as well as the Sandyford to St. Stephen's Green section of the second line, with Gio. Ansaldo & C., Ansaldo of Italy and MVM of Australia getting the contract to build the system. The St. Stephen's Green to Dublin Airport section was dropped before construction began, as it was decided to serve the area by a Dublin Metro, metro instead. Luas
Luas (pronounced ; Irish for "speed") is a tram/ light rail system in Dublin, Ireland. There are two main lines: the Green Line, which began operating on 30 June 2004, and the Red Line which opened on 26 September 2004. Since then, both lines have been extended and split into different branches further out of the city. The two lines, as of 2017, now intersect and connect within Dublin city centre. The system now has 67 stations and of revenue track, which in 2018 carried 41.8 million passengers, an increase of 11.2% compared to 2017. Luas is operated by Transdev, under tender from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). (Prior to the later RPA merger with the National Roads Authority to form TII, the tender was originally under the defunct Railway Procurement Agency jurisdiction). Blackhorse Luas Stop
Blackhorse ( ga, An Capall Dubh) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2004 as a stop on the Red Line. The stop is located at the intersection of Davitt Road and Naas Road. The stop has two edge platforms, and is of the same design as many Luas stops. After departing the stop, northbound trams head along a section of track which runs adjacent to the Grand Canal on their way to Connolly or The Point. Southbound trams turn onto Naas Road, travelling south-west towards Tallaght or Saggart. The stop lies adjacent to Blackhorse bridge and a pub called ''The Black Horse''. Goldenbridge Luas Stop
Goldenbridge ( ga, An Droichead Órga) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2004 as a stop on the Red Line. The stop is located next to a lock on a section of track which runs alongside the Grand Canal, near Goldenbridge Cemetery. The area is named for the Golden Bridge (formerly ''Glydon Bridge'') which carries Emmett Road over the River Camac, some 800m away from the Luas stop. This is thought to be a corruption of ga, gabhailín, meaning "little fork", in reference to a nearby fork in the road. The stop includes a level bridge crossing the lock, allowing access to nearby areas on the north side of the canal. The stop is also served by Dublin Bus route 123. Trinity Luas Stop
Trinity ( ga, An Trionóid) is a stop on the Luas light-rail tram system in Dublin, Ireland. It opened in 2017 as a stop on Luas Cross City, an extension of the Green Line through the city centre from St. Stephen's Green to Broombridge. It is located on College Street at the side of Trinity College, Dublin. It also provides access to the Olympia Theatre. It is part of a one-way system and serves trams travelling south. The Grand Canal ( ga, An Chanáil Mhór) is the southernmost of a pair of canals that connect Dublin, in the east of Ireland, with the River Shannon in the west, via Tullamore and a number of other villages and towns, the two canals nearly encircling Dublin's inner city. Drimnagh () is a suburb in Dublin, Ireland to the south of the city between Walkinstown, Crumlin and Inchicore, bordered by the Grand Canal to the north and east. Drimnagh is in postal district Dublin 12. History Early to mediaeval Drimnagh derives its name from the word ''druimneach'', or country with ridges. A neolithic settlement discovered and a funerary bowl found in a burial site. The site was demolished, but the bowl is on view in the National Museum. The lands of Drimnagh were taken from their Irish owners by Strongbow, who gave them to the Barnwell family, who had arrived in Ireland with Strongbow in 1167 and had settled in Berehaven in Munster. The people of Munster killed the family except for Hugh de Barnwell, and this youth was given Drimnagh as compensation. Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin (CHI at Crumlin; ga, Sláinte Leanaí Éireann ag Cromghlinn) in Drimnagh, Dublin is Ireland's largest paediatric hospital. CHI at Crumlin is so called because it is located ''at'' Crumlin. However it is located ''in'' Drimnagh. History The hospital, which was built on land donated by the Archbishop of Dublin, was designed by Robinson Keefe Devane and officially opened as Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in 1956. The hospital changed its name to "Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin" in 2005. In November 2012 the Minister for Health James Reilly announced plans to transfer the hospital's services to a new children's hospital on the campus of St. James's Hospital. Richmond Barracks
Richmond Barracks was a British Army barracks in Inchicore, Dublin, Ireland. It is now a cultural centre. History The barracks, which were named after Charles Lennox, 4th Duke of Richmond, were completed in 1810 and first occupied by the British Army in 1814. Many Irishmen were stationed there before going overseas to fight in the World War I, First World War. During the First World War the barracks also served as the 2nd cavalry depot providing accommodation for the 4th Queen's Own Hussars, the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars, the 11th Hussars and the 13th Hussars.
