Drew Smith (baseball)
Andrew David Smith (born September 24, 1993) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB). Amateur career Smith graduated from Crowley High School in Crowley, Texas in 2012. In 2011, as a junior at Crowley, he was 10-1 with a 1.90 ERA in 85 innings. Undrafted out of high school in the 2012 Major League Baseball draft, he enrolled at Dallas Baptist University where he played college baseball for the Dallas Baptist Patriots. As a junior at Dallas Baptist in 2015, Smith compiled a 3-2 record and 3.97 ERA in 25 appearances for the Patriots. Professional career Detroit Tigers Smith was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the third round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. He signed with Detroit for $575,800 and was assigned to the GCL Tigers. After one appearance in the GCL, Smith was promoted to the Connecticut Tigers. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies are an American Minor League Baseball team based in Binghamton, New York. Lucas Christopher Duda (born February 3, 1986) is an American former professional baseball first baseman who played most of his Major League Baseball career for the New York Mets. He was the starting first baseman for the 2015 Mets team that won the National League pennant, and led the team in games played during the 2010s. The Montgomery Biscuits are a Minor League Baseball team based in Montgomery, Alabama. They are the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays and play in the Southern League. The team was founded in Orlando, Florida, in 1973 as the Orlando Twins, an affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. After remaining in the Minnesota minor league organization for 20 seasons, the team became an affiliate of the Chicago Cubs for four seasons and then the Seattle Mariners for one. Durham Bulls
The Durham Bulls are a Minor League Baseball team of the International League and the Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. They are located in Durham, North Carolina, and play their home games at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, which opened in 1995. Established as the Durham Tobacconists in the North Carolina League in 1902, the team subsequently disbanded and restarted numerous times. After a 10-year hiatus, it was reestablished as the Durham Bulls and played in the North Carolina State League from 1913 to 1917. The Charlotte Stone Crabs were a Minor League Baseball team located in Port Charlotte, Florida, from 2009 to 2020. They competed in the Florida State League (FSL) as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays Major League Baseball (MLB) team. They played their home games at Charlotte Sports Park and were named for the Florida stone crab, which is indigenous to the Charlotte County region. The Stone Crabs arrived in Port Charlotte in 2009 after the Vero Beach Devil Rays were purchased by Ripken Baseball and relocated from Vero Beach, Florida. They played 11 seasons in Port Charlotte. Michael Anthony Mahtook (; born November 30, 1989) is an American professional baseball outfielder who is a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers. Prior to beginning his professional career, Mahtook played college baseball at Louisiana State University. Early life and education Mahtook attended St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette, Louisiana and is of Lebanese descent. He played baseball and football in high school. In Major League Baseball, a player to be named later (PTBNL) is an unnamed player involved in exchange or "trade" of players between teams. The terms of a trade are not finalized until a later date, most often following the conclusion of the season. Postponing a trade's final conditions or terms is often done for several reasons. First, the team receiving the PTBNL might not be certain which position they want to fill, so this type of deal gives them more time to figure it out. Second, this type of arrangement gives the team receiving the PTBNL more time to evaluate the available talent on the other team. The West Michigan Whitecaps are a Minor League Baseball team of the Midwest League and the High-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. They are located in Comstock Park, Michigan, a suburb of Grand Rapids, and play their home games at LMCU Ballpark.
