Dressage depends on judges because they have to judge the rider during their test. A dressage judge is open and transparent and judges what they see at that moment. A dressage judge must first obtain a certificate to judge. A judge is then a certified official and has the authority to judge official national and if possible international competitions. To become a member of the jury, a judge must undergo education through the national sports federation in the country in which the member of the jury is active. Dressage ( or ; a French term, most commonly translated to mean "training") is a form of horse riding performed in exhibition and competition, as well as an art sometimes pursued solely for the sake of mastery. As an equestrian sport defined by the International Equestrian Federation, dressage is described as "the highest expression of horse training" where "horse and rider are expected to perform from memory a series of predetermined movements." Competitions are held at all levels from amateur to the Olympic Games and World Equestrian Games. Its fundamental purpose is to develop, through standardized progressive training methods, a horse's natural athletic ability and willingness to perform, thereby maximizing its potential as a riding horse. Marian Cunningham (born 23 November 1951) is a Peruvian equestrian. She competed in the individual dressage event at the 1984 Summer Olympics. She also competed at the 1983 Pan American Games in Venezuela. Jennie Loriston-Clarke
Jennie Loriston-Clarke MBE (born 22 January 1943) is a British equestrian. She competed at the 1972, 1976, 1984 and the 1988 Summer Olympics. After her riding career, Loriston-Clarke was active as an international Eventing and Dressage judge on 4* level and as Technical Delegate. Biography Loriston-Clarke was born in Charmouth, England, in 1943. From 1972 to 1988, she competed at four Olympic Games, only missing the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Her best individual performance was 14th place in the dressage at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. She retired from competition in 1995. In 1979, Loriston-Clarke was awarded with an MBE for her services to equestrianism, and in 2006 she became the first person to be awarded with the Queen's Award for Equestrianism. Peter Storr
Peter Storr (born 16 March 1965) is a British dressage rider, trainer and judge. Storr competed at the 2001 European Championships in Verden, Germany and at the 2002 FEI World Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. He served as first reserve for the British team at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia and at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. He served for eight years as national coach for the British pony team. During his coaching time the British pony team won two times gold, one time silver and two times bronze. Helen Sandy Pflueger (born April 14, 1954) is an American equestrienne. She has competed successfully in both eventing and dressage, finishing second at the prestigious Badminton Horse Trials in 1981 and competing on the United States Dressage Team at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. The International Federation for Equestrian Sports (, FEI) is the international governing body of equestrian sports. The FEI headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland. An FEI code of conduct protects the welfare of the horses from physical abuse or doping. Ricky MacMillan
Ricky MacMillan, (born 24 September 1961 in Surat, Queensland) is an Australian equestrian, international dressage judge, chair of Equestrian Australia and dentist. She competed at the Sydney 2000 Olympics in the individual and the team dressage events. Riding Crisp, she finished in 35th place in the individual event, while the Australian team of Kristy Oatley, Mary Hanna, Rachael Downs and MacMillan finished 6th in the team event. She subsequently competed at the Athens 2004 Olympics in the individual dressage event. Again riding Crisp, she finished 37th in the individual event.
