Dio was an American heavy metal band formed in 1982 and led by vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Dio left Black Sabbath with intentions to form a new band with fellow former Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice. The name Dio was chosen because it made sense from a commercial standpoint, as the name was already well known at that time. The band released 10 studio albums and had numerous lineup changes over the years, with Dio himself being the only constant member. Guitarists included Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldy, Doug Aldrich, Warren DeMartini, Tracy G, Jake E. Lee and Rowan Robertson. The band dissolved in 2010 when Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer at the age of 67. Dio has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide. Biography Origins and ''Holy Diver'' (1982–1983) In 1982, disagreements originating over the mixing of Black Sabbath's '' Live Evil'' album resulted in the departure of Ronnie James Dio and Vinny Appice from the band. "Heaven and Hell" is the title track of Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath album), ninth studio album. The music was written mainly by guitarist Tony Iommi, but – as with almost all Sabbath albums – credit is given to the entire band. The lyrics were written entirely by newcomer Ronnie James Dio. Children Of The Sea (song)
"Children of the Sea" is a song by heavy metal band Black Sabbath, from their ninth studio album, '' Heaven and Hell'' (1980). Overview "Children of the Sea" was the first song written by the band following the 1979 departure of original lead singer Ozzy Osbourne. The song's melody and lyrics were composed by new singer, Ronnie James Dio, and the music was written largely by guitarist Tony Iommi. After first meeting Iommi in 1979, Dio arrived at the guitarist's Los Angeles house for a jam session, and on that occasion the duo wrote the song. "Tony had this great riff he played me but nothing to go with it," recalled Dio. "I said, 'Gimme a minute' and went into the corner and started writing down the words." Iommi recalled the moment as a turning point in Black Sabbath's career, saying "It was exciting and challenging because we were doing things that quite frankly would have been beyond us with Ozzy. He wasn't that sort of singer." Iommi claims to still possess a very early de ...
