Downtown Tacoma
Downtown is the central business district of Tacoma, Washington, United States, located in the inner Northeast section of the city. It is approximately bounded east-west by A Street and Tacoma Avenue, and north-south by South 7th Street and South 25th Street. The center of downtown is the intersection of 9th and Broadway. History Downtown Tacoma's mid-century downturn was exacerbated by the opening of the Tacoma Mall in the 1960s. Many of the anchor retail stores left downtown to relocate to the mall. Following this exodus of retailers, city leadership attempted to make downtown more appealing to shoppers by building two large parking garages and by closing off to traffic two blocks of Broadway Street between South 9th and South 11th Streets. Rialto Theater-Tacoma
The Rialto is a central area of Venice, Italy, in the ''sestiere'' of San Polo. It is, and has been for many centuries, the financial and commercial heart of the city. Rialto is known for its prominent markets as well as for the monumental Rialto Bridge across the Grand Canal. The Tacoma Mall is the largest shopping center in Tacoma, Washington, and is owned and operated by the Simon Property Group. Anchor tenants include Dick's Sporting Goods, JCPenney (originally two levels, but added a third level in 1986), Macy's (originally The Bon Marché), and Nordstrom, with one vacant anchor last occupied by Sears, which opened in 1981. The University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma) is a campus of University of Washington in Tacoma, Washington. The UW Tacoma campus opened in leased space in 1990 and opened its permanent campus in 1997. Washington State History Museum
The Washington State History Museum is a history museum located in downtown Tacoma, Washington, United States. It is operated by the Washington State Historical Society under the official approval of the Washington State Legislature. The museum opened on August 10, 1996, at a building adjacent to historic Union Station that cost $42 million to construct. The museum maintains three permanent exhibits. Seabury School
Seabury School is an independent school for gifted children in Tacoma, Washington. Founded in 1989, Seabury is the only independent school in the South Puget Sound marketed towards intellectually advanced children.
