Down By The Laituri (often shortened to DBTL) is a rock festival organised annually in the city of Turku, Finland since 1988. In the month of July, the festival is organised next to the river Aura in Turku's city center. In Finland, DBTL is the largest and oldest festival to be organised in a city center. In 2005, the festival took place from 27 to 31 July, attracting approximately 70,000 people and included performances from Panasonic (now Pan Sonic) and Jimi Tenor Jimi Tenor (born Lassi O. T. Turku
Turku ( ; ; sv, Åbo, ) is a city and former capital on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River, in the region of Finland Proper (''Varsinais-Suomi'') and the former Turku and Pori Province (''Turun ja Porin lääni''; 1634–1997). The region was originally called Suomi (Finland), which later became the name for the whole country. Aura River (Finland)
The Aura River (Finnish ''Aurajoki''; Swedish ''Aura å'') is a river in south-western Finland. Its sources are in Oripää, and it flows through Pöytyä, Aura and Lieto before discharging into the Archipelago Sea in the middle of the city of Turku. The waters of the Aura river are brown. The total length of the river is about , and it contains eleven rapids, the biggest of which is Nautelankoski at Lieto. The reserve tap water for Turku Region is drawn from the Aura, the city's secondary waterworks being situated by the Halinen rapids. The word "Aura" appears to come from an archaic Swedish word for waterway (''aathra'', which is still current in the form ''ådra''), but in Finnish it translates as "plough," a name the river lives up to. Situated in an agricultural zone, it is made turbid by surface runoff from nearby farms with eutrophication as the biggest threat. Pan Sonic
Pan Sonic was a Finnish electronic music group founded in Turku in 1993. The group consisted of Mika Vainio, Ilpo Väisänen, and Sami Salo. Salo left in 1996 leaving Pan Sonic a duo. The group was originally named Panasonic until 1998. In December 2009, it was announced that Pan Sonic would disband after their concerts that month. Their final album, ''Gravitoni'', was released by Blast First Petite in May 2010. ''Oksastus'', a live album recorded in 2009, was released in 2014. Music Pan Sonic cite their main influences from the early 1980s, with industrial acts like Throbbing Gristle, Einstürzende Neubauten and Suicide to reggae, hip-hop and dub. Jimi Tenor (born Lassi O. T. Lehto, 1965) is a Finnish musician. His artist name is a combination of the first name of his youth idol Jimmy Osmond and the tenor saxophone. His band Jimi Tenor & His Shamans released its first album in 1988, whilst Tenor's first solo album appeared in 1994. "Take Me Baby" became his first hit in 1994. He has released albums on Sähkö Recordings, Warp Records and Kitty-Yo record labels. Tenor has performed several times with the avant-garde big band Flat Earth Society. In 1997, he contributed a cover of "Down in the Park" to on the Gary Numan tribute album Random''.
