Down By The Jetty
''Down by the Jetty'' is the debut album by English rock band Dr. Feelgood, released in January 1975. The band's Johnny Kidd & the Pirates-influenced originals ("Keep It Out of Sight") appear alongside covers material like " Bonie Moronie" and "Tequila". The album was re-released as a double CD in 2006 (EMI 0946 363951 2 8). Legacy Paul Weller and Bob Geldof have acknowledged the influence of ''Down by the Jetty'', as have Blondie, the Ramones and Richard Hell, who were introduced to the album by Blondie's drummer Clem Burke. In 1976, prior to being signed, Paul Weller's band The Jam demoed a cover of "Cheque Book". A copy of the album is also glimpsed on the sleeve of the 1985 album '' Our Favourite Shop'' by his later band The Style Council. Rhythm and blues, frequently abbreviated as R&B or R'n'B, is a genre of popular music that originated in African-American communities in the 1940s. John Lee Hooker
John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1912 or 1917 – June 21, 2001) was an American blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. The son of a sharecropper, he rose to prominence performing an electric guitar-style adaptation of Delta blues. Hooker often incorporated other elements, including talking blues and early North Mississippi hill country blues. He developed his own driving-rhythm boogie style, distinct from the 1930s–1940s piano-derived boogie-woogie. Hooker was ranked 35 in ''Rolling Stone''s 2015 list of 100 greatest guitarists. "Boom Boom" is a song written by American blues singer and guitarist John Lee Hooker and recorded in 1961. Although it became a blues standard, music critic Charles Shaar Murray calls it "the greatest pop song he ever wrote". "Boom Boom" was both an American R&B and pop chart success in 1962 and a UK top-twenty hit in 1992. "She Does It Right" is a song by the band Dr. Feelgood. Recorded in 1974 it appeared on their debut album, ''Down by the Jetty''. "She Does It Right" was also issued as a single in the UK in March 1975. It failed to reach the UK Singles Chart. Written by Wilko Johnson, and produced by Vic Maile, the song was Dr. Feelgood's second single release, following their debut with "Roxette". The b-side of the record, "I Don't Mind", was also penned by Johnson. "She Does It Right" was also later included in Dr. Feelgood's 1997's compilation album, '' Twenty Five Years of Dr. Feelgood''. ''Uncut'' is a monthly magazine based in London. It is available across the English-speaking world, and focuses on music, but also includes film and books sections. A DVD magazine under the ''Uncut'' brand was published quarterly from 2005 to 2006. The Style Council
The Style Council were a British musical ensemble, band formed in late 1982 by Paul Weller, the former singer, songwriter and guitarist with the punk rock/New wave music, new wave/mod revival band the Jam, and keyboardist Mick Talbot, previously a member of Dexys Midnight Runners, The Bureau (band), the Bureau and the Merton Parkas. The band enabled Weller to take his music in a more soulful direction. The permanent line-up grew to include drummer Steve White (drummer), Steve White and Weller's then-girlfriend, vocalist Dee C. Lee. Other artists such as Tracie Young, Tracey Thorn (Everything but the Girl), and drummer/percussionist Steve Sidelnyk (who has played for Madonna (entertainer), Madonna, Seal (musician), Seal, Richard Ashcroft) also performed and collaborated with the group. ''Our Favourite Shop'' is the second studio album by the English group the Style Council. It was released on 8 June 1985, on Polydor, and was recorded ten months after the band's debut ''Café Bleu''. It features guest vocalists, including Lenny Henry, Tracie Young, and Dee C Lee. The album contained " Come to Milton Keynes", " The Lodgers", " Boy Who Cried Wolf", and " Walls Come Tumbling Down!" which were all released as singles, with corresponding music videos. The Jam were an English mod revival/ punk rock band formed in 1972 at Sheerwater Secondary School in Woking, Surrey. They released 18 consecutive Top 40 singles in the United Kingdom, from their debut in 1977 to their break-up in December 1982, including four number one hits. As of 2007, " That's Entertainment" and "Just Who Is the 5 O'Clock Hero?" remain the best-selling import singles of all time in the UK. Clem Burke
Clement Burke (born Clement Anthony Bozewski; November 24, 1954) is an American musician who is best known as the drummer for the band Blondie from 1975, shortly after the band formed, throughout the band's entire career. He also played drums for the Ramones for a brief time in 1987, and performed under the name Elvis Ramone. Life and career Burke's early experiences behind the drum kit began in the late 1960s and early 1970s as one of the founding members of Bayonne's premier cover bands, Total Environment and Sweet Willie Jam Band. Richard Hell
Richard Lester Meyers (born October 2, 1949), better known by his stage name Richard Hell, is an American singer, songwriter, bass guitarist and writer. Hell was in several important early punk rock bands, including Neon Boys, Television and The Heartbreakers, after which he formed Richard Hell & the Voidoids. Their 1977 album '' Blank Generation'' influenced many other punk bands. Ramones
The Ramones were an American punk rock band that formed in the New York City neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens, in 1974. They are often cited as the first true punk rock group. Despite achieving a limited commercial appeal in the United States during their time together, the band saw more success in England and Brazil, and are today seen as highly influential.
