''Down Texas Way'' is a 1942 American Western film directed by Howard Bretherton and written by Adele Buffington. This is the sixth film in Monogram Pictures' ''Rough Riders'' series, and stars Buck Jones as Marshal Buck Roberts, Tim McCoy as Marshal Tim McCall and Raymond Hatton as Marshal Sandy Hopkins, with Luana Walters, Dave O'Brien and Lois Austin. Howard Bretherton
Howard Bretherton (13 February 1890, in Tacoma, Washington – 12 April 1969, in San Diego, California) was an American film director, film editor, and the father of film editor David Bretherton. Career He began his career as a propman and then became a film editor during the early 1920s for MGM. He directed his first film, ''While London Sleeps'', in 1926, and thereafter spent more than three decades working mostly as a film director. Of the roughly 100 pictures he directed, most of them were westerns and action/adventure films. The final film he directed was ''Night Raiders (1952 film), Night Raiders'' in 1952. Afterwards, he occasionally worked as a director in television through 1958. John Merton
John Merton (born Myrtland F. LaVarre; February 18, 1901 – September 19, 1959) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 250 films between 1927 and 1959, mostly as a villain. He was the brother of filmmaker André de la Varre and William LaVarre and the grandfather of actress Diane Delano. Biography Born and raised in Seattle with three other brothers, Franklin, Claude, and William LaVarre, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War I. He joined the New York Theatre Guild in 1919 and appeared in a variety of shows. He made his film debut as a police officer in '' Running Wild'' (1927) filmed in Long Island's Astoria Studios. He travelled to Hollywood in 1932 and began a long career of small parts in major films and villain roles in B-movies and film serials. He met Cecil B.
