Epitaph Records
Epitaph Records is an American independent record label owned by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, most acts signed to the label were punk and pop punk acts, while there are many post-hardcore and emo bands signed to the label as well. A large portion of the record label, known as Hellcat Records, is owned by Tim Armstrong, frontman of the punk rock band Rancid. Several sister labels also exist, such as ANTI-, Burning Heart Records, Hellcat Records, and Heart & Skull Records that have signed other types of bands. ''Blue'' (stylized as ''blue'') is the second studio album by American punk rock band Down by Law. It was released on September 25, 1992, by Epitaph Records on compact disc, compact cassette and phonograph record. The release was their second to be recorded at Westbeach Recorders studio in Culver City, California and produced by Epitaph Records owner Brett Gurewitz; co-produced by Donnell Cameron. The album's artwork was designed by vocalist and rhythm guitarist David Smalley's wife, Caroline Murphy Smalley, in collaboration with Epitaph Records' contract art director Joy Aoki and illustrator Michael Koelsch. ''Blue'' was Down by Law's final release to feature the band's original line-up, as drummer David Nazworthy, lead guitarist Christopher Bagarozzi and bass guitarist Edward Urlik left immediately after the completion of its promotional tour. Dave Smalley
Dave Smalley is an American musician, best known as the lead singer for the hardcore punk bands DYS, Dag Nasty, and All and as lead singer/guitarist with Down by Law. He is known for his influence on pop punk music and his early contributions to the emo genre. He also founded a side project called The Sharpshooters, whose music is influenced by mod revival bands such as The Jam. Smalley has also produced and appeared on Canadian punk band Penelope's second album, ''Face au silence du monde'', recorded by Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studio in Arlington, Virginia. He received a bachelor's degree from Boston College and a masters in political science from California State University Los Angeles. He resides with his family in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where he works as a features editor of the Weekender section of the town's newspaper, the ''Free Lance-Star''. The Outlets
The Outlets were a 1980s Boston rock band, consisting of David Alex Barton on vocals, his brother Rick Barton on lead guitar, Mike White on bass and Walter Gustafson on drums. History An acclaimed live band, The Outlets attained success in the greater Boston music scene but failed to gain national attention when they signed with Restless/Enigma in 1985, despite modest critical acclaim including a recommendation from ''Billboard''. They are best known for the single "Knock Me Down", a regional hit. David Alex Barton reunited The Outlets in the late 1990s. The band reunited again in 2005. Mat Gleason (born October, 1964) is an American-born author and curator. Gleason became known through Coagula Art Journal which he founded in 1992, and later via its brick and mortar continuation as Coagula Curatorial. David F. Nazworthy, professionally known as Dave Naz (born September 2, 1969) is an American photographer and film director. Early life Nazworthy was born in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in Beverly Hills. He is the son of Maxine F. Nazworthy, descendant of Max Factor, Sr., founder of the Max Factor company. Nazworthy attended El Rodeo Elementary School in Beverly Hills, California, and earned his high school diploma from Beverly Hills High School. Career From 1985 up to 1997, Nazworthy played in the punk rock bands Chemical People, Down by Law, and The Last. Inspired by artists such as Larry Clark, Nan Goldin and Diane Arbus, Naz started photographing people in sexual situations.
