Catharine Dowman
Catharine Dowman (; 25 May 1878 – 19 September 1972) was an English philanthropy, philanthropist associated with Women's suffrage. and the restoration of the Cutty Sark Family Catharine was a member of the wealthy English Courtaulds, Courtauld textile family. She was born in Bocking, Essex,''1911 England Census'' the daughter of Sydney Courtauld (10 March 1840 – 20 October 1899) and Sarah Lucy Sharpe (1844-1906) and elder sister of Samuel Courtauld (art collector), Samuel Courtauld, founder of the Courtauld Institute of Art. In 1912, she met her future husband, Wilfred Harry Dowman, whilst a passenger sailing from London to Sydney on the Port Jackson which was a cadet training ship. Wilfred was already married so they had to wait for his divorce before finally marrying in 1920. Keith Dowman
Keith Dowman (born 1945) is an English Dzogchen teacher and translator of Tibetan Buddhist texts. Dowman travelled to India and Nepal in 1966 where he practiced Kriya Yoga with Ganesh Baba and vipassanā meditation with the Indian Theravadin teacher Anagarika Munindra. After connecting with Tibetan Buddhism, he met and trained under many Tibetan masters, including his root gurus Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje and Kangyur Rinpoche, Longchen Yeshe Dorje. He lived near these masters in Darjeeling, West Bengal, for many years. He studied Classical Tibetan at Queens College, Sanskrit University, in Varanasi, India, under Lama Jamspal. In 1973, at the Nyingma Institute in Berkeley, California, his translations were first published under the auspices of Tarthang Tulku, while he taught on Tibetan language at Sonoma State University. Mathew Peter Dowman (born 10 May 1974) is a retired English cricketer. Born in Grantham, Dowman was a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. Having started his career at Under-19 level, and including at this stage in his career a top score of 267 for England under-19s against the West Indies in Hove in 1993, at that point a youth "Test" record. A year later he started playing for Nottinghamshire. Having a successful spell at the team, including a county high score of 149 against Leicestershire, and best bowling figures of 3/10, he continued to play first-class cricket until 2002, including a spell with Derbyshire near the end of his career. Ruth Dowman
Ruth Dickey (née Dowman, 3 January 1930 – 14 September 2018) was a New Zealand long jumper and sprinter who won a bronze medal in the long jump at the 1950 British Empire Games. Biography Born on 3 January 1930 to Athol Frederick Dowman and Iris Muriel Dowman (née Kettle), Ruth Dowman showed early promise as a sprinter, beating Joan Hart in a 100 yards handicap race in December 1944. Later that season, in February 1945, Dowman won the 100 yards title at the Auckland provincial track championships, and finished third in the 75 yards. The following month, she competed at the New Zealand national athletics championships in Napier, finishing second in both the 75 yards and 100 yards sprints. Dowman went on to win five national athletics titles: the 75 yards in 1946, 1947, and 1948; and the 100 yards in 1946 and 1947. Steve Dowman
Steve Dowman (born 15 April 1958) is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League as a central defender. Career Born in Manor Park, Dowman began his career at Colchester United, making 154 league appearances and scoring 21 goals. He then moved on to play for Wrexham, Charlton Athletic, Newport County and Cambridge United, before dropping into non-league football. As a teenager, Dowman was considered an outstanding prospect and picked (along with his partner in central defense, Lindsay Smith) as part of the PFA 4th division team of the year.
