Dowager Stakes
The Dowager Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for fillies and mares that are three years old or older, over a distance of miles on the turf held annually in October at Keeneland Race Course, Lexington, Kentucky during the autumn meeting. The event currently carries a purse of $300,000. History The race was inaugurated in 1992 and the event was run over the miles distance. In 1994 the event was extended to the current distance of miles. In 2015 the event was upgraded to a Grade III. Keeneland Association, Inc. is an equine business based in Lexington, Kentucky. It includes two distinct divisions: the Keeneland Race Course, a Thoroughbred racing facility, and Keeneland Sales, a horse auction complex. It is also known for its reference library. John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Vexatious (foaled April 9, 2014) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse and the winner of the 2020 Personal Ensign Stakes. Career Vexatious's first race was on October 28, 2016, at Santa Anita, where he came in third. He picked up his first win in a Maiden Special Weight race on November 26, 2016, at Del Mar. He started competing in stakes races during the 2017 season. Through five stakes races, his best results were 3rd-place finishes at the Grade-2 April 1, 2017 Fair Grounds Oaks and the April 14th, 2017, Grade-3 Fantasy Stakes.
