Dow W. Harter
Dow Watters Harter (January 2, 1885 – September 4, 1971) was a U.S. Representative from Ohio. Born in Akron, Ohio, Harter attended the Akron public schools. He received preparatory education at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and graduated from the law department of the same university in 1907. He was admitted to the Michigan and Ohio bars in 1907. He commenced practice in Akron, Ohio, in 1911. First assistant prosecuting attorney of Summit County, Ohio from 1914 to 1916. He served as member of the State house of representatives in 1919 and 1920. In 1920 he was named as a charter member and first president of the Akron Host Lions Club. United States commissioner at Akron, Ohio from 1918 to 1926. Harter was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third and to the four succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1933 – January 3, 1943). Summit County, Ohio
Summit County is an urban county in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 540,428, making it the fourth-most populous county in Ohio. Its county seat and largest city is Akron. The county was formed on March 3, 1840, from portions of Medina, Portage and Stark Counties. It was named Summit County because the highest elevation on the Ohio and Erie Canal is located in the county. Summit County is part of the Akron, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Combined Statistical Area. The 73rd United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, D.C. from March 4, 1933, to January 3, 1935, during the first two years of Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidency. Because of the newly ratified 20th Amendment, the duration of this Congress, along with the term of office of those elected to it, was shortened by days. The apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives was based on the Fifteenth Census of the United States in 1930. The Democrats greatly increased their majority in the House, and won control of the Senate for the first time since the 65th Congress in 1917. With Franklin D.
