Doun Kaev (town)
Doun Kaev ( km, ដូនកែវ ; lit. "Crystal Grandmother") is the capital of Takéo Province, Cambodia. In 1998 it had a population of 39,186. The town and province is known for silk weaving, and the province is home to about 10,000 of the total of 15,000 Cambodian weavers. Most silk weavers in the villages are near the national highway in the direction of Takéo town. The technique of silk weaving could have come to the Khmer during the Kingdom of Funan, probably in the 2nd century, from India and China. List of municipalities in Cambodia by population The figures listed in the table below come from the 2018 Commune Database (CDB) published by the National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development (NCDD). These data are recorded differently to Cambodian census data and significant variations are to be expected between the two due to internal and external migration. The national census does not record population by city, rather by province. The only available method of estimating the population of a city is through the CDB, which is updated every two years. Provinces Of Cambodia
Cambodia is divided into 25 provinces ( km, ខេត្ត, ). The capital Phnom Penh is not a province but an "autonomous municipality" ( km, រាជធានី, link=no, ; lit. 'Capital'), equivalent to a province governmentally and administered at the same level as the other 24 provinces. Phnom Penh has both the highest population and the highest population density of all provinces, but is the second smallest in land area. The largest province by area is Mondulkiri and the smallest is Kep which is also the least populated province. Mondulkiri has the lowest population density. Pen Sovan ( km, ប៉ែន សុវណ្ណ; 15 April 1936 – 29 October 2016) was a Cambodian politician and revolutionary who served as the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Prime Minister of the Hanoi-backed People's Republic of Kampuchea from 27 June to 5 December 1981. He also served as General Secretary of the Kampuchean People's Revolutionary Party (KPRP) from 1979 to 1981. He was arrested and removed from office in December 1981 by the Vietnamese for irritating Lê Đức Thọ, the chief adviser to the PRK government. He was imprisoned in Vietnam until January 1992. Sovan founded the Cambodian National Sustaining Party, which contested in the 1998 Cambodian general election, 1998 election but did not win a seat in parliament. Chinary Ung ( km, អ៊ុង ឈីណារី ) (born November 24, 1942 in Takéo, Cambodia) is a composer currently living in California, United States. Career After arriving in the US in 1965 to study clarinet, he turned to composition studies with Chou Wen-chung and Mario Davidovsky, receiving a Doctor of Musical Arts from Columbia University in 1974. In 1988, he became the first American to win the University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for musical composition. Additionally, he received the Kennedy Center Friedheim Award, as well as awards from The American Academy of Arts and Letters, Asia Foundation, Asian Cultural Council, Rockefeller Foundation, Ford Foundation, Guggenheim Foundation, Joyce Foundation, and The National Endowment for the Arts.
