The Legislative Council ( gv, Yn Choonceil Slattyssagh) is the upper chamber of Tynwald, the legislature of the Isle of Man. The abbreviation "LegCo" is often used. Bill Henderson (Isle Of Man)
Robert "Bill" William Henderson MLC RMN (born 28 December 1961) is a Manx legislator who, after winning a 1998 by-election, represented the constituency of Douglas North in the House of Keys, the directly elected lower branch of Tynwald, the Isle of Man's parliament. In 2010, he was elected to the upper house, the Legislative Council; he was re-elected in 2015 and again in 2020. A native of the Isle of Man capital, Douglas, Henderson was educated at Ballakermeen and St Ninians High Schools, gained a Professional Diploma in Management from the Open University and followed a career in nursing before going into politics. He is also a member of the Transport & General Workers Union and the Celtic League. John Ramsey Houghton MHK (born 1958/1959 in Douglas, Isle of Man) is a former Isle of Man politician who served as Member of the House of Keys for Douglas North until losing his seat in the 2016 Manx General Election. He has two daughters. Political career Houghton is an outspoken critic of the Isle of Man Constabulary and its former Chief Constable, Mike Culverhouse. During the 'Manx Bugging Scandal' in 2000, he publicly supported former Deputy Chief Constable Neil Kinrade. Houghton previously served as a Commandant of the Special Constabulary and Chairman of the Civil Service Commission. In 2009, Houghton objected to the Gender Recognition Bill as he believed new laws to protect the rights of transsexuals living on the Isle of Man would "defy common decency". Edward "Alan" Crowe MLC, FCIS, ACIB (born 1 September 1940) is a former Manx politician and former teacher, who was successively a member of both branches of Tynwald in the Isle of Man. Early life and career Born on 1 September 1940 to George Henry Crowe and Esther Annie Crowe (née Caley), he was educated at Ramsey Grammar School and Loughborough Training College. He was awarded a teaching diploma, and taught initially in England and then in Canada. He then embarked upon a banking career, initially with the Isle of Man Bank, and became the Company Secretary and Executive Director of various companies, including Eagle Star (International Life). Bernard May MHK (born 6 July 1941) is a British politician and entrepreneur, who was a Member of the House of Keys in the Isle of Man and Government Minister. Early life and career Born on 6 July 1941 to Harry Turner May and Lilian Freda (née Nicholl) in Hyde, Cheshire, he was raised on the Isle of Man and educated at Douglas High School.
