Douglas M. Sloan
Douglas M. Sloan is a curriculum theorist and author. He was a professor of history and education at Teachers College, Columbia University for three decades. He is a proponent of anthroposophy-based education. Works His 1971 book ''The Scottish Enlightenment and the American College Ideal'' argued that American education owed its roots to influential Presbyterian Scots who never feared an educated populace unlike their counterparts in the Anglican church. In Christianity, Neo-orthodoxy or Neoorthodoxy, also known as theology of crisis and dialectical theology, was a theological movement developed in the aftermath of the First World War. The movement was largely a reaction against doctrines of 19th-century liberal theology and a reevaluation of the teachings of the Reformation. Karl Barth is the leading figure associated with the movement. In the U.S., Reinhold Niebuhr was a leading exponent of neo-orthodoxy. It is unrelated to Eastern Orthodoxy. Andrew Hook, FBA, FRSE, is Emeritus Bradley Professor of English Literature at the University of Glasgow. Having graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1954, he completed national service and went on to graduate study at Manchester and Princeton universities.
