Doug Varone
Doug Varone is an American choreographer and director. He works in dance, theater, opera, film and fashion. He is an educator and advocate for dance. His company, Doug Varone and Dancers, has been performing for over three decades. Education Varone received his BFA from Purchase College, where he was awarded the President’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007. Choreography Varone created many works for the concert dance stage. His commissions include works for the Paul Taylor Dance Company, the Limón Company, the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, the Rambert Dance Company (London), the Martha Graham Dance Company, the Dancemakers (Canada), the Batsheva Dance Company (Israel), the Bern Ballet (Switzerland) and An Creative (Japan). New York City Opera
The New York City Opera (NYCO) is an American opera company located in Manhattan in New York City. The company has been active from 1943 through 2013 (when it filed for bankruptcy), and again since 2016 when it was revived. The opera company, dubbed "the people's opera" by New York Mayor Fiorello La Guardia, was founded in 1943. The company's stated purpose was to make opera accessible to a wide audience at a reasonable ticket price. The Obie Awards or Off-Broadway Theater Awards are annual awards originally given by ''The Village Voice'' newspaper to theatre artists and groups in New York City. Guggenheim Fellowships are grants that have been awarded annually since by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation to those "who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts." Each year, the foundation issues awards in each of two separate competitions: * One open to citizens and permanent residents of the United States and Canada. * The other to citizens and permanent residents of Latin America and the Caribbean.
