David Adkins (born March 11, 1961) is an American attorney and former member of the Kansas State Legislature. , he leads The Council of State Governments as its ninth executive director and CEO. Adkins earned degrees in political science and law from the University of Kansas where he was elected student body president and was the first KU student selected to receive the prestigious Harry S. Pat Colloton (born September 18, 1944) is a former Republican member of the Kansas House of Representatives, representing the 28th district. She served from 2004 to 2013. Colloton, who has worked as an attorney since 1970, received her Bachelor's in Chemistry and Psychology from the University of Wisconsin, and her JD from UW Law School. Prior to her election to the House, Colloton served as an alternative delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2004, and a delegate to the Kansas Republican Party Convention in 2003. Leawood is a city in Johnson County, Kansas, United States, and is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 33,902. History 19th century After the 1803 Louisiana Purchase, the area east of present-day Leawood opened for settlement. The Santa Fe Trail which ran through the area also contributed to the development of the area. The Border Ruffian War (1855-1857), part of a larger conflict known as Bleeding Kansas, damaged the local economy as pro-slavery activists from the slave state of Missouri attacked settlers, traders, and those traveling along the Santa Fe Trail. Conditions improved with the founding of Oxford, Kansas, the predecessor of Leawood. The township was destroyed by the American Civil War, and there was little left by 1865.
