Doug Oliphant
Douglas Oliphant (29 January 1911 – 3 March 1999) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Perth in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL) and Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Oliphant had a decorated career at Perth, culminating in him being named as a follower in the club's official Team of the Century. Also used as a key forward, he was Perth's leading goal-kicker on four occasions, in 1930, 1931, 1932 and 1940. His 84 goals in 1931 was also enough to top the league's goal-kicking. Oliphant won two best and fairests for Perth and was runner up in the 1936 Sandover Medal, to George Moloney. He also represented Western Australia at interstate football on six occasions. After captaining Perth in 1940, Oliphant spent the 1941 season as playing coach of Kalgoorlie City in the Goldfields National Football League and steered the club to a premiership. Boulder, Western Australia
Boulder is a suburb in the Western Australian Goldfields, east of Perth and bordering onto the city of Kalgoorlie in the Eastern Goldfields region. The Boulder (horse) Races were a significant event in early twentieth century goldfields region history. The town maintained its separation from Kalgoorlie until the 1980s, however even prior to that era, many surveys and studies of the towns and their areas tended to join the names. Prior to 1989, Boulder was a town, but it was merged with Kalgoorlie to form the City of Kalgoorlie–Boulder. The population of Boulder in 1901 was 2,936 (1850 males and 1086 females), which increased to 5,658 (3090 males and 2568 females) in 1903. At the 2006 census, Boulder had a population of 5,178. This had decreased to 4,825 by the 2016 census. On 20 April 2010 Kalgoorlie-Boulder suffered a magnitude 5.0 earthquake which damaged several of the historic buildings in Boulder. Goldfields Football League
The Goldfields Football League is an Australian rules football league based in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. Founded in 1896 as Hannans District Football Association, the league enjoyed a seat and full voting rights on the Australian National Football Council until 1919. The first clubs to play Australian football were formed within the region, and the league helped popularise the sport in the region, helping to establish the sport and supplant Rugby in popularity. The GFL was known as the Goldfields Football Association (GFA) from 1901–07 and 1920–25, and as the Goldfields National Football League (GNFL) from 1926–87. 1942 VFL Season
The 1942 VFL season was the 46th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. Played during the peak of World War II, only eleven of the league's twelve clubs competed, with withdrawing due to travel restrictions. The season ran from 9 May until 19 September, and comprised a home-and-away season in which each club played either 14 or 15 games, followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Essendon Football Club for the seventh time, after it defeated by 53 points in the 1942 VFL Grand Final. Perth Football Club
The Perth Football Club, nicknamed the Demons, is an Australian rules football club based in Lathlain, Western Australia, currently playing in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). Representing the south-east area of the Perth metropolitan region, the club currently trains and plays its home games at Lathlain Park (currently known, for sponsorship reasons, as Mineral Resources Park), having previously played at the WACA Ground between 1899 and 1958 and later in 1987 and 1988. The club was founded in 1899 and began play in the First Rate Junior Association, but was promoted to the WAFL after eight games to replace the Rovers Football Club after they dropped out of the league and folded, with Perth drawing much of its inaugural WAFL squad from Rovers.
