Doug Morrison
Doug Morrison (born February 1, 1960) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 23 games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins between 1980 and 1985. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1980 to 1992, was mainly spent in the minor American Hockey League, and later in Europe. Doug is the brother of Mark Morrison (ice hockey, born 1963), Mark Morrison, who also played in the NHL. Their sister married fellow Canadian hockey player Garth Butcher. Morrison scored seven NHL goals--all during the 1980-81 season. His first NHL goal occurred on November 27, 1980 in his team's 3-3 tie with Pittsburgh at Boston Garden. Morrison recorded a hattrick versus the Los Angeles Kings on December 14, 1980 with all three of his goals coming consecutively in the third period. Boston Bruins
The Boston Bruins are a professional ice hockey team based in Boston. The Bruins compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference. The team has been in existence since 1924, making them the third-oldest active team in the NHL, and the oldest to be based in the United States. The Bruins are one of the Original Six NHL teams, along with the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Toronto Maple Leafs. Richmond Sockeyes
The Richmond Sockeyes are a Junior "B" ice hockey team based in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. They were named the "Sockeyes" by the original owner and longtime Richmond resident and B.C. hockey volunteer and leader Bruce Allison in 1972. Allison was motivated to bring top-level junior hockey to Richmond while also encouraging local players to play closer to home and stay in school. The first captain of the team was Richmond product Doug Paterson - who is one of the team's current owners. The Sockeyes franchise has had success as a Junior B team, and for several years as a top Junior A team in the PAC-A league and later the BC Junior Hockey League. 1981–82 NHL Season
The 1981–82 NHL season was the 65th season of the National Hockey League. The William M. Jennings Trophy made its debut this year as the trophy for the goaltenders from the team with the fewest goals against, thus replacing the Vezina Trophy in that qualifying criteria. The Vezina Trophy would thereafter be awarded to the goaltender adjudged to be the best at his position. Springfield Indians
The Springfield Indians were a minor professional ice hockey franchise, originally based in West Springfield, Massachusetts and later Springfield, Massachusetts. The Indians were founding members of the American Hockey League. They were in existence for a total of 60 seasons from 1926 to 1994, with three interruptions. The Indians had two brief hiatuses from 1933 to 1935, and from 1942 to 1946. The team was known as the Syracuse Warriors from 1951 to 1954; in addition, the team was named the Springfield Kings from 1967 to 1975. The 1980–81 NHL season was the 64th season of the National Hockey League. The New York Islanders were the top regular season team and the top playoff team, winning their second consecutive Stanley Cup by defeating the Minnesota North Stars in five games. 1979–80 NHL Season
The 1979–80 NHL season was the 63rd season of the National Hockey League. This season saw the addition of four teams from the disbanded World Hockey Association as expansion franchises. The Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, New England Whalers (later renamed "Hartford Whalers" at the insistence of the Boston Bruins), and Quebec Nordiques joined the NHL, bringing the total to 21 teams. The other two WHA teams ( Birmingham Bulls and Cincinnati Stingers) were paid to disband. The New York Islanders won their first Stanley Cup, defeating the Philadelphia Flyers in six games, in the finals. The season also marked the eighth and final season for the Flames in Atlanta before the franchise relocated to Calgary. Western Hockey League
The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a major junior ice hockey league based in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. The WHL is one of three leagues that constitutes the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) as the highest level of junior hockey in Canada.
