New Jersey's 11th Congressional District
New Jersey's 11th congressional district is a suburban district in northern New Jersey. The district includes portions of Essex, Morris, and Passaic Counties; it is centered in Morris County. The 11th congressional district, along with the 12th, was created in 1913 based on the results of the 1910 census, and was centered in Essex County. The congressional seat was held by Democrats for almost 36 years under Hugh Joseph Addonizio and Joseph Minish. The 1980 redistricting shifted the focus of the district to the Republican-dominated Morris County. Republican Dean Gallo defeated 22-year incumbent Democrat Joseph Minish in 1984. New Jersey's 10th congressional district is an urban congressional district in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The district consists of portions of Essex, Hudson and Union counties, and includes the cities of Newark and Orange. The district is majority African American and has been represented in Congress by Democrat Donald Payne Jr. since November 2012. The district was previously represented by Donald Payne Jr.'s father, Donald M. Payne Sr., from 1989 to 2012, and became vacant as a result of the elder Payne's death on March 6, 2012. Steven Richard Rothman (born October 14, 1952) is an American former jurist and politician who served as the U.S. representative for New Jersey's 9th congressional district, serving for 16 years from January 3, 1997, to January 3, 2013. Rothman was a member of the House Appropriations Committee, and also served on the House Judiciary, Foreign Affairs, and Science and Technology Committees. Prior to his election to the U.S Congress, Rothman also served as the elected Bergen County Surrogate Court Judge, and the two-term Mayor of the City of Englewood, New Jersey. New Jersey's 9th Congressional District
New Jersey's 9th congressional district is represented in Congress by Democrat Bill Pascrell, who resides in Paterson. Congressman Pascrell was first elected in 1996 from the old 8th district (prior to the 2010 census), defeating incumbent William J. Martini. The 9th district consists largely of municipalities in Bergen County and Passaic County. Due to redistricting following the 2010 Census, portions of the old 9th district were shifted to the 5th district and the new 8th district, as part of a reduction in congressional districts from 13 to 12 in New Jersey.
