Doug Cameron (musician)
Douglas John Cameron is a Canadian musician and composer best known for writing and performing a protest song entitled "Mona with the Children" about a Persian Baháʼí girl aged 16, Mona Mahmudnizhad, who, in 1983, together with nine other Baháʼí women, was sentenced to death and hanged in Shiraz, Iran, because of her membership in the Baháʼí Faith. Cameron recreated Mahmudnizhad's story in a music video, ''Mona with the Children'', which made the pop charts in Canada (#14 for the week of October 19, 1985). Partly to distinguish himself from new age composer Doug Cameron the name ''John'' was added. he also works with collaborator Jack Lenz (also a Baha'i) on children's TV, notably Treehouse TV, where he performed under the name Douglas John. Douglas Niven Cameron (born 27 January 1951) is a retired Australian politician and trade unionist. He served as a Senator for New South Wales from 2008 to 2019, representing the Australian Labor Party (ALP). Early life Cameron was born in Bellshill, Scotland, just outside Glasgow. His mother's parents were born in Lithuania. He left school at 15 to take up an apprenticeship as a fitter at a local chain-making factory. Shortly after completing his apprenticeship the factory closed, and Cameron emigrated to Australia in 1973, at the age of 22. He initially worked at the Garden Island Dockyard in Sydney, before moving to the Liddell Power Station in Muswellbrook in 1975, where he worked as a maintenance fitter. Union movement After seven years working at the power station Cameron was elected as the Hunter Valley/New England regional organiser for the Amalgamated Metal Workers and Shipwrights Union (AMWSU). Douglas Carlyle Cameron (born March 22, 1957) is an American engineer, inventor, and investor. He is a senior managing director for the U.S.-China Green Fund. He is on the board of the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) and is a technical and business advisor to organizations including the VTT (Finland), and the Center for Bioenergy Innovation (USA). Early life and education Cameron was born in Champaign, Illinois. The oldest of three brothers, he grew up in the Chicago suburb, Westchester, and graduated in 1975 from Proviso West High School, Hillside, Illinois. Cameron graduated from Duke University (1979) with a B.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering. In May 1979 he joined Advanced Harvesting Systems, a start-up company focused on large-scale plant protein purification, as the first non-founding member of the company.
