Doug Brown (athlete)
Charles Douglas Brown (born March 1, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan) is a retired American track and field athlete, whose specialty was the Steeplechase. Early career While competing for the University of Tennessee he won the NCAA Championship in the steeplechase twice in a row, which qualified him to run in the 1973 World University Games. After college he ran with the Athletics West track club, one of the first mega teams sponsored by Nike. He was United States (Amateur Athletic Union) National Champion in 1973 and 1980. Olympic athlete Brown competed for the United States in two Olympic Games, running the steeplechase at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics. He qualified for the 1980 U.S. Olympic team but did not compete due to the U.S. Olympic Committee's boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Russia. Miguel Santiago "Mike" Roche (born June 27, 1953) is an American middle-distance runner. He competed in the men's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Roche was a 1975 NCAA All-American in the 3000 steeplechase while attending Rutgers University Rutgers University (; RU), officially Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is a Public university, public land-grant research university consisting of four campuses in New Jersey. Henry Dinwoodey Marsh (born March 15, 1954 in Boston, Massachusetts) is a retired runner from the United States, who made four U.S. Olympic teams and represented his native country in the men's 3,000 meter Steeplechase in three Summer Olympics, from 1976 through 1988. Biography Marsh qualified for the 1980 US Olympic team but was unable to compete due to the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott. He did however receive one of 461 Congressional Gold Medals created especially for the spurned athletes. Track & Field News ranked him the number one steeplechaser in the world for 1981, 1982, and 1985. Moreover, he was world ranked (i.e., top 10) in this event for 12 consecutive years, 1977-1988.
