Harry Douglas Anderson (28 October 1926 – 15 October 2016) was a New Zealand rugby league footballer who represented New Zealand in the 1954 World Cup. Playing career Anderson played for Marist, Howick and Point Chevalier in the Auckland Rugby League competition. He represented Auckland and was first selected for the New Zealand national rugby league team in 1947. Anderson was the first member of the Point Chevalier club to be selected for the Kiwis and went on to play in 22 games, including three test matches, for New Zealand. Takapuna
Takapuna is a suburb located on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand. The suburb is situated at the beginning of a south-east-facing peninsula forming the northern side of the Waitematā Harbour. While very small in terms of population, it was the seat of the North Shore City Council before amalgamation into Auckland Council in 2010 and contains substantial shopping and entertainment areas, acting as a CBD for the North Shore. The Auckland Rugby League (ARL) is the governing body for the sport of rugby league in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It is responsible for rugby league in the region, including both club and school rugby league. It began in 1910 when the first season of club league in Auckland occurred. The first match was a practice game between Newton Rangers and Ponsonby United at Victoria Park which Ponsonby won 17 to 15. The first full club season was in 1910. The Auckland Rugby League was once recognised by England's Northern Rugby Football Union as New Zealand's governing body for the game of rugby league. In 2009, the ARL celebrated its centenary. The Point Chevalier Pirates are an Auckland rugby league club based in Point Chevalier. The Pirates currently compete in the Fox Memorial (First Division) competition run by the Auckland Rugby League. History The club was founded in 1919."Yo ho ho and ninety years done" ''Superleague'', Issue 1 2010. p.27. On April 5, 1919 the Auckland Star reported that a "new club that has just been affiliated is the Eden Ramblers, boys from Avondale and Point Chevalier". In 1911 a club named Eden Ramblers had formed in the area and played at the Avondale racecourse with the club rooms in Point Chevalier. However they ceased fielding teams during 1913 and effectively folded in the same year.
