Doubtless River
The Doubtless River is a river of northern Canterbury, New Zealand. A tributary of the Doubtful River, it rises south of Mount Boscawen and flows southward through the Lake Sumner Forest Park to join that river east of Phantom Flat. The New Zealand Department of Conservation maintains a backcountry hut near the junction of the Doubtless and Doubtful Rivers. Southern Alps (New Zealand)
The Southern Alps (; officially Southern Alps / Kā Tiritiri o te Moana) is a mountain range extending along much of the length of New Zealand's South Island, reaching its greatest elevations near the range's western side. The name "Southern Alps" generally refers to the entire range, although separate names are given to many of the smaller ranges that form part of it. The range includes the South Island's Main Divide, which separates the water catchments of the more heavily populated eastern side of the island from those on the west coast. Politically, the Main Divide forms the boundary between the Marlborough, Canterbury and Otago regions to the southeast and the Tasman and West Coast regions to the northwest. It rises near Mount Barron and flows south then south-east through Lake Sumner Forest Park, reaching the Boyle River west of Hanmer Springs. The Doubtful Range lies to the south. The Doubtless River and Devilskin Stream are tributaries entering from the north. The New Zealand Department of Conservation maintains a tramping track alongside the river, with routes off to the north and south. It is centered around Lewis Pass and has a number of access points along State Highway 7. It sits in between Lewis Pass Scenic Reserve and Arthurs Pass National Park. Hurunui District is a territorial local government district within the Canterbury Region on the east coast of New Zealand's South Island, north of Christchurch. It stretches from the east coast to the Main Divide. Its land area is . Local government During the period, 1853 to 1876, the area north of the Hurunui River was administered as part of the Nelson Province. After the abolition of the provinces in 1876 the Amuri and Cheviot counties were formed.
