Double Or Quits (1953 Film)
''Double or Quits'' (French: ''Quitte ou double'') is a 1953 French comedy film directed by Robert Vernay and starring Zappy Max, Suzanne Dehelly and Danielle Godet.Rège p.999 It was shot at the Epinay Studios outside Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art director Claude Bouxin. Along with Zappy Pax it features several performers who had become famous on the Radio Circus show on Radio Luxembourg. Synopsis Charlotte, a mature librarian from Bourganeuf in Limousin is a huge fan of Zappy Max, the host of a popular radio show. She sends him letters but to impresses him also sends him the picture of an attractive younger woman Marie. When Zappy arrives in the city as part of his national tour Charlotte persuades Marie to take her place in a meeting and the two fall in love. Meanwhile, Charlotte enters as a contestant in the radio show's double of quits game and wins money. Robert Vernay (May 30, 1907 in Paris – October 17, 1979 in Paris) was a French director and screenwriter. Career In 1937, Vernay worked as assistant director to Julien Duvivier on ''Pépé le Moko''. In 1944, Vernay directed an adaptation of Balzac's ''Père Goriot'', starring Pierre Renoir. It was released in 1945. In the late 1950s, he directed a "tacky comedy" called '' Madame et son auto''. Line Renaud (born 2 July 1928) is a French singer, actress and AIDS activist. Early life Line Renaud was born Jacqueline Ente in Pont-de-Nieppe on 2 July 1928. Her mother Simone was a shorthand typist; her father was a truck driver during the week, but he played the trumpet on weekends, in a local brass band. Line showed the first signs of her talent in primary school, when at the age of seven she won an amateur competition.
